Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes

Imami:
Hi bebe,
My gals used to do MPM from K2 to P1/2. No, they dun get to keep the worksheets, only those maths tools (quality quite good).bebe:
Enopi and Mpm, do we get to take back the worksheets?
at close to $160/4 lessons (any additional material costs per term?), did anyone engage a private tutor to carry out similar activities (eg arithmetic and IQ work) in similar nature instead?
thanks!
I am curious. Since there are no paper materials for the students to keep, just the math tools, what/how can we do with the math tools?
My colleague who had her boy enrolled with mpm said all workbooks are returned to the school, just the math tools given to the kids. She said she didn't use the tools anymore after the lessons.
I rem my kids were still playing with some of the tools like clock, and cubes for a while before keeping them aside. -
boycott those centres that keep their own materials. Its amazing that in order to protect their own intellectual property, they have to take the materials back and this jeopardise the revision for young children at home.

Hi,
I am looking for good Maths enrichment class for my DS (P3), with good reviews e.g. something like Mrs Lee Math Tuition in Marine Parade.
Area that I am looking at: Pasir Ris, Tampines or Simei
Hope those of you who have experience could share or PM me.
Thanks in advance. -

not only tuition.my ds's english tutor also kept the materials. She showed me the list of creative phrases, later kept it.no structure,no guidelines...just blindly teach...don't know how to revise either.i've to create my own compo guidelines to teach him -

All questions are 'alive' meaning questions are changing. Why still clinging on those past worksheets? Get the concepts are more important.
For me, even get back those materials, also throw away. Wasting my space. -
Hi Phtthp
Can you share with me the contact number of the teacher who goes for home tuition? My P3 kid needs help in basic concept. Thank you. -
hi I really need help!
can you recommend an enrichment centre? he is weak in maths, others subjects like eng and mother tongue r ok. recently he failed his maths, got 27/70 his 1st fail! he is only in p2 and its juz a neighbour sch. but I think the math std is not easy but still, some of his classmates can do better, like scoring 50/70.
he seems to have prob understanding the math q or concept, esp prob sums. what goes wrong, I really duno. we need to explain a few times, but sometime he still dun get it. he only has eng tuition but we intend to withdraw him fr eng class and enrol him for math class. we cant afford 2 tution in more than 1 subject.
can you recommend? I saw a few like cma , mind matter, mind stretcher...but dun really noe which is a better one... really need testimonial from you parents! -

:hugs: I can understand your worries regarding your DS's result - 1st of all you might want to take a look at the paper itself and see where he went wrong. Identify those questions that
1) made mistakes due to carelessness eg wrong transferring of number when addition 209+153 =
2) questions that he has difficulties understand the English language structure
3) questions that require model-drawings as model drawings have just being introduced to the P2s so they have not really mastered it.
Another area to work on is to speak with the Maths teacher - is your child able to understand the teacher's teaching in class? Is the speed too fast for your DS?
I have no experience with any Maths Enrichment centre for P2 as my P2 DD2 does not have Maths tuition but my P5 DD1 is attending Just Education since she was in P4 and continues with the same tutor till now. You may try calling up the centre nearest to you and make enquiry.

Hi champion
My neighbor’s dd told me she went to just Ed when she was in p4 last yr. Aft 1 yr, her maths has improved from 80 to 90s. She has stopped maths since beginning of this yr but she was still getting 90s for her ca1 this yr. I heard most kids will c a drop in p5 ca1 whereas she still maintain in 90s eventhough she has stopped her maths tuition. Can u pls share a bit more on their teaching or materials? Are they paced at a slighly higher level? Are the worksheets/materials used in the ctr the same as the just Ed assessment books sold in popular? Sorry for asking so many que & thx in adv for yr reply.
