Methodist Girls' School (Secondary)

Hi
I find the program interesting, and there are many group works and projects. They are sometimes a little daunting, but it is interesting and sometimes it makes us go really in depth and through the projects, there were friendships forged and we are able to bond together with our classmates. The teachers are always there for you, and you can fire them any question straightaway. Since there is only two classes, we get to interact for subjects like triple E for instance (which is the class that teaches us different cultures). I don't know how different things are taught from the SBC classes, because I never experienced them before, but IP has many tests now and then, which is a certain percentage of your total score... sometimes 1% or maybe even more. Yea,
haha so that's about it
I'm not affiliated but we do mix very well with the old MG girls
so...we really had a great time together (esp. when we went to west coast park together) :rahrah: Over time, you'll get used to it and you will start to enjoy it :boogie: and for sec 1s, we don't have air-con. And for DSA, yep there's 60 students in total and i guess most of us got in by PSLE score, I only know a few of them who got through by DSA :grphug:
Maybe you can come to our open house

I'm also keen to know your opinion of IP & MGS. Were you from an affiliated primary sch ie. familiar with the culture or new. How many students are there in a class? And something off topic, are the classroom Aircon like ACSI? ;).
HI waterblob,comfy:
Hi

I'm from the IP batch this year :)) Anyone needs to know anything?
How is life in IP this year? Is it tough? A lot of hw? Interesting?
Planning to let DD DSA, do you roughly know how many vacancies (or %) there are for DSA? I heard there is only 60 IP students?
Thanks.
The sec 1 &2 and a few sec 3 &4 classrooms no aircon. Apparently reduces spreading of air borne diseases.
but MGS is on a hill so there's a fair amount of breeze and our uniforms definitely help too
anyway less aircon means less global warming right?

Come visit the MG open house from 8.30am - 2.30pm!
IP/DSA Breifing at 8.30 & 11.30
and join our MG family

Oops forgot to mention on 18 May 2013!

Thanks waterblob & candycanes124.
I will definitely be at the open house on 18May. Unfortunately my daughter has a Maths competition on that day, so she will not be able to feel the school environment personally. But I'll feedback to her
Just curious, this is the first IB year for MGS. What is the reason/pull factor for you to decide to be the pioneer batch? Was it a decision made by yourself or your parents are involved in the decision-making?
-
Hi BeContented,
I am not Sec 1, so I'm not in the IB batch, so I think waterblob would be better in telling you more about it
but the reasons why people in my year are really keen in applying for IB for next year is because
MG is currently the only girls school for through-train IB and
MG teaches great values and is very fun
Most of my non-MG pri friends say it was mainly their parents' decision to send them to MG (parents know best!
)
Good luck for your daughter's math competition! :rahrah: -
Hi BeContented,
The reason I wanted to go to MGS IP was because for the past two years I've been to the open house and last year my parents and I thought that MGS IP was pretty interesting so we decided to try out :boogie: Before I did my Sec 1 posting exercise, my parents and I sat down and talked about the ideal choices I have and then we discussed about our priorities and which school could provide a more holistic education+distance from home+Bonding with friends. So its more of a my-parents-and-my-choice kind of decision

I understand that MGS IP will join ACSI in year 5.
Is this regardless of result at year 4?
Meaning once admitted to MGS IP will auto move to ACSI in year 5?
Does MGS has O level route too? These are separated from IP classes?
Thanks! -

S4 MGS IP students will join ACSI in Y5 semi-automatically after graduation. It will still be possible to be sidetracked, retracked, or otherwise off-track. A student may fail to meet the criteria for advancement.
Yes, MGS has an O-level route too, with students having different classes from those taking the IP route. -
Hi autolycus
For acs/mgs, can we assume that the will occur latest by end of y3 in order for the kids to apply for O lvl exam in y4?
