Maybe DD is tired.
Maybe she's tired...carin004:
sigh.... I really don't know what else i can do to help my DD. Her marks has been slipping for every revision paper done in school
..... she nearly fail two of them (english revision paper)!! Her performance has been consistent for the past years.
After going thru them, i noticed DD had been \"improving\" on her carelessness :slapshead: Even her better subjects (Math & sci) suffered!!! Her concepts and methods are there... its just plain carelessness...... sigh.... Her languages (esp english) are the worst hit....
I had been taking \"nicely\" to her until now. I thought all is well when i see that she is able to do and score for the past year school exam papers.
Any advise?
For myself, I felt DS was getting sick of never ending homework so I hands off for a couple of weeks. I didnt ask about mock test or revision paper outcome hoping to ease him some stress. I am worried since SA1 is approaching but I decided to let go in case he gets too fatigued. Thankfully, he bounced back. There are still stuff he has to cover for SA1 but guess we'll take it as it comes...
Had a heart to heart talk to DD.... she is also noticed her work is slipping... and she is worried too. So I asked her what/where/how she needs my help most. One by one she identified areas that needs help and how to improve them. With SA1 coming.... I am very worried.... Hopefully she can bounce back soon..... :xedfingers: -

Hi carin004,
I love this part \"what/where/how she needs my help most\".
So detailed and I think this clear distinction and labelling can really help your child to know \"what/where/how she needs my help most\".
Hehe...I learnt something new....
There's another method I learnt about pinpointing to the exact cause and is the 3 Whys or 5 Whys....ask Why and it should bring us closer to the root of the problem....
Just curious, when you say \"bounced back\", where will she be bouncing from and to?
Thanks again for your great sharing.

Love this...when ownership and responsibility is given to the children, they become accountable for it...and maybe, they know that they have the control now, they feel more motivated...everything becomes predictable and controllable, in the eyes of the children...
But because she owns the process, I feel she is more responsible for it. At times, she would of course go off track and we have to remind/nag her. But if DD does not want to listen, she will have to bear the consequences ie. sleep later on Sun to finish up or get punished by her teacher for incomplete work.
Personally, I think by giving them some R&R to look forward to.....it helps.
I was browsing through Facebook and I saw this interesting quote and I think it relates to this...
\"Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do because they want to do it.\" - Eisenhower\"
Have a good weekend everybody! Remember to have R&R too as a family! -
Does anybody know where to get/Assessments with Grammar/ Synthesis Rules?

Dear parents and friends,
This thread has been quiet these few days and most probably parents are busy...
These 2 weeks are the crucial weeks...whatever the case, just encourage your child to do his/ her best...improving is a process...so as long as you feel you child has improved, be positive and encourage your child to move on...and never ever once think of giving up on your child...not even thinking about it because your child can feel it and he/she can read your body language and how you respond (non-verbally)...so believe in your child...
here are some suggestions or last minute tips:
1. focus on mistakes - yes, lots of revision have been done and yes, your child has done many questions right...so now, before s/he goes to battle...focus and revise on the wrong answers...the learning process is \"learn-> apply -> feedback\"
once you are sure your child has learnt the concept, redo the same questions and about 5 more various questions testing on the same concept...you can just change the numbers...
2. minimise the careless mistakes - which include writing the wrong units, writing the wrong numbers or copying the right answer but writing it wrongly...so while doing #1, do look out for the careless mistakes at the same time and you may want to write these down on a sheet and paste on wall where your child sees everyday...
Carless mistakes - removing them or not making them can make a difference between a grade or two...so yes, not making them is a very important step too (beside being able to smoothly complete many questions testing on various concepts...
3. relook at some questions from recent worksheets - you never know what they meant or why they are given out....there may be some similarity...so if anything not sure or corrections not done, get them done and make sure your child can do them eventually without any guidance...
This is one of the last lap...as I have always told my parents, if we don't hold our children's hands all the way, then who will...so never let go and good luck!

Hi John,
Yes, we are very busy. We haven't done any revision yet. Tonight we will do the planning
Yesterday DS already pointed out Maths topics that he is weak at. I need to scan the PSLE Maths thread to find more relevant problem sums to strengthen his weak areas. With hundreds of pages to scan, it is no small feat

2 rates and 3 rates (e.g A can finish the job within x hours, B can finish the job within y hours, and so on). I found some from assessment books but I thought of finding more questions to practice.
