Question:

The ratio of the number of library books in School ABC to the number of library books in School XYZ was 5:4. When 1424 books from School ABC were loaned to School XYZ, the ratio of the number of books in School ABC to the number of books in School XYZ became 13:14.

(a) What fraction of the books in School ABC was loaned to School XYZ ?
(b) How many books were there in School XYZ at first?

b)1424/2=712

Btw, can you explain why the ratio 5:4 multiply by 3? And why the denominator is 15? My son does not understand it.

if we divide the one unit into three we can get ABC----5*3=15parts, XYZ--- 4*3=12parts [I divide or simply multiply by 3 to get a bigger number than 13 as 1424 books from School ABC were loaned to School XYZ]
And why the denominator is 15?
cos now total of 15parts in ABC

2u=2*60=120

Total = 8u = 8 x 8 = 64

Hi,

L : M + N
1 : 4 (total 5)
2 : 8 (total 10, total unchanged)

M : L + N
1 : 9 (total 10)

So,
L : M : N
2 : 1 : 7 (total 10, total unchanged)
2U : U : 7U

N-M -->7U – U --> 6U -->60
U -->10

Cost -->10U--> $100
