Hi everyone,
i have a son in 2009 too ^^
i think my son have delay in speech problem…
Until now his vocalbury words are quite limited.
Teachers in school complained he has very short attention, yells and runs around.
The school also advise me to withdraw him & enroll him in a smaller class.
so sad T_T -

Did the doctor any wrong with him? Maybe it is the diet that cause him to be short attention. Sugary food example sweets, chocolate, cakes, ice cream, cookies ect are bad for children and will cause them to be hyperactive and have low attention in class and thus cannot learn well. Also , is he eating alot of meat? and watching alot of TV before 3 years old? example more than 1 hour per day of TV is bad for kids and they cannot concentrate well in classHi everyone,

Hi madmom,
It’s not a bad idea to change the preschool for your kid to a less crowded one. With more attention from the teachers, your kid may be able to behave and learn better.
What made you think he has a speech delay problem? It’s too early to judge based on the vocabulary he knows. Does he have problems for both English and Chinese?
There are many factors that can cause a 3+ kid to speak with a lesser range of words. It could be the lack of a speaking environment, lack of exposure, resistance to the language etc.
In fact, to improve his vocab, I encourage some TV watching (educational shows only) especially if he is a visual learner and that’s the only thing he can sit down and focus on.
I agree however that too much sugar will cause hyperactivity.
An over active kid also requires a strong authority figure for discipline and guidance. -
Hi , Im a newbie here. My daughter was born in Nov’09 and currently full day at PCF. I was not very concerned abt her intellectual developmt until recently when her sch taught writing and I realized that she is getting the strokes for some alphabets wrong constantly. She also cannot read words given her age…not sure if this is considered late. So thinking of enrolling her in some enrichment classes but there are just too many avail and some at such high rates. Anyone has recommendation for good and affordable courses?
