Came to find out more about the school but chanced upon this interesting thread. @edwardtay79 Only recently then Minister Chan talked about the fluidity of allowing students who are strong in HMTL/MTL, to take HMTL in secondary school, and not tied to overall PSLE scores. So this is a system that has already been in place for the longest time. Nothing wrong from analysing data and trends, that students who are getting bad total AL scores, be advised or forced to drop HMTL (at P6). The data probably supports the decision that those who dropped, probably did better after that in the 4 main subjects, since the score does not allow them to go SAP school anyway. You can say you are forward thinking, but try not to be salty if your kid is not up to the mark, and the system (soon to be ‘previous’ system), does not support your kid in exploring HMTL at primary schools. If your kid is really good at mother tongue, then even if he has lost a year in sec school, he still got offered at the end. So that is already testament of your kid’s ability. But the testament of your kid’s ability does not equate to the failure of the system. The system changes, and evolves. Your child is just in the previous system, as are many of his counterparts in his age. The system (before the announcement made in Sep 2024) is, if his overall PSLE score is bad, doesn’t matter if Chinese is AL1, he will still not be eligible for HMTL. So this is not the fault of the school already. You can blame the system if you want to. This has nothing to do with streaming students and into subject banding also. The system, as of 2024, still remains that overall PSLE score is tied to HMTL eligibility, and that naturally translates into overall results in pri sch tied to HMTL eligibility. A logical person will be able to see that. Anyway hope you can move on already since it sounds like your kid has already moved on from this school. Cheers!

@ThomasHsu hey, I personally think it’s likely that she will be admitted given her score, all the best! Separately, I came across a good article that highlights some of the key considerations and next steps when preparing for the transition to secondary school. I thought it’s a good read and is worth checking out.

The “good” news is imgur still allows image upload for non-account users, the “bad” news is the image gets deleted after a certain no. of days (if I’m not mistaken, it’s 120, i.e. 3 months later).

Singapore Primary Level Maths is known to be advanced in the whole world! And the difficulty level keeps increasing every couple of years. In this situation, many parents seek Maths tuition for their children, to get an edge over the school syllabus. A good Maths tutor can shorten the learning curve of your child, and let your child be the Maths Ace student of the class! Introducing Ms Heng- the star Maths tutor for your child Ms Heng has a simple philosophy when it comes to learning Maths: it must be efficient, engaging, and fun, then the student will gain confidence and excel in it. Her approach: Identify areas of weakness for each topic, for each student. For many topics, we frequently noticed that most students only have a few points of weaknesses, or lack of understanding per topic. Through our experience, we are able to identify and zero-in on these areas of challenge. Once these points are cleared up, the student become confident and love to tackle problems on these Math topics. 2) Enhance understanding of concepts A good teacher has to understand how young students think and what their perspectives on things are. By using everyday examples that students can relate with, they can internalise new Maths concepts better. 3) Customised teaching for different students Ms. Heng often calibrates her teaching methods and speed according to how advanced the student is. 4) Wealth of teaching resources Practice makes perfect!! Ms. Heng’s Maths lessons expose her students to a wide range of Math questions. Her Maths lesson notes and sample questions have been refined throughout the years. Ms. Heng often makes it a priority to increase the size of her library of test questions frequently, and her test question bank aligns with the MOE curriculum, regardless of pre-Covid or post-Covid. Even during the COVID season, she was able to move with times to provide ZOOM online lessons for her students, so the students’ learning would not be negatively impacted. She noted from some of the her ex-students and ex-graduating students that there was lack of tutors who were able to provide ZOOM online lessons for them, hence their grades were negatively impacted before they gotten to know Ms. Heng. MATHS / SCIENCE TUITION @ TOA PAYOH Effective tuition by Scholar Tutor. More than 25 years teaching experience. Good teaching methods. Engaging lessons. Proven track record! SOME OF THE TESTIMONIALS … " I was a student who was scoring 'C’s and lower before I joined his tuition. Now I have 'A’s for Maths and Science due to his good teaching and constant motivation." Hui Teng (Student) " Just within 6 to 7 months of his teaching, I have improved my Science from mid-year exam B4 to my end-year exam A1 … Maths from D7 to A. " Daniel Chan (Student). “He (Zane) put in the work, dedication, patience and passion into transforming Cassandra … who had difficulty passing her exams to now securing “As” for her O levels. We wouldn’t have dreamt of such success without Zane’s spectacular teaching abilities.” Audrey Tan (Parent) “I found Zane after some online searches. A number of good testimonials from his students caught my eye. Since attending Zane’s class, Kimberly (my daughter) is able to catch up with her class lesson in Sec 2. We realised that with the newly found confidence in the Math subject in 2019, Kimberly constantly challenges herself in doing more practices. There was a huge improvement for 2019 Math exams. We would like to compliment Zane for patiently guiding Kimberly for the past 1 year, and for unleashing her once-lost interest in math.” Peck Lin (Parent) Note : Kimberly scored a distinction in Maths for GCE O Levels. " I enjoy Zane’s tuition. His explanation is clear, detailed and simple to understand. He knows the syllabus well and would highlight areas of importance for reading up & practices. Hence, I can study more effectively and achieve better results." Joel Koh (Student). “ I did well for my recent GCE ‘O’ level. Thanks to Mr Tan, my previous borderline grades has improved tremendously over the time I was with him. All the friends I have recommended to Mr Tan also did well. Mr Tan is very different from other teachers and tutors. He does not teach in a ‘dry, textbook manner’ but makes the lessons lively, engaging and practical. “ Nathan Koh (Student) “He is a great tutor that makes learning seems more fun than it actually is. I really enjoy his tuition and have learned much under him. His teaching is so much better than my school teachers. He keeps my attention and helps me to learn more efficiently. He also shares experiences to motivate me to a higher level; I find this really meaningful.” Nicole Goh (Student) More testimonials at https://www.learn2develop.com/testimonialall.html For more information, please contact 91184394 Website at http://www.learn2develop.com

Hi everyone, I’ve been reflecting on Singapore’s early childhood education system and how it often feels like a race to get kids ahead from such a young age. From the rigorous focus on academics to the numerous enrichment programs, there’s no denying that the system is designed to be competitive. While this approach does prepare children for Singapore’s demanding education system, I wonder if it might come at a cost. Are we pushing our little ones too hard, too soon? Shouldn’t early childhood be more about exploration, creativity, and developing a love for learning, rather than preparing for academic milestones? One alternative I’ve been researching is the Montessori method, which emphasizes self-paced, hands-on learning in a nurturing environment. Montessori classrooms allow children to choose activities that interest them, promoting independence and curiosity. This contrasts with the structured and test-oriented methods seen in many traditional kindergartens here. What do you think? Do you believe Singapore’s approach to early childhood education strikes the right balance? Has anyone here tried Montessori programs, and do you feel they help kids thrive without the stress of competition? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Cheers!
