Does anyone know where to buy this DSA Preperation Book published by Jackeline Carter from J Carter Centre for Public Speaking?

I am so happy to see this forum up and running. I have an average student with above average language , expression and imagination. He currently is enrolled into a drama school, definitely is not camera and people shy, loves to paint ( but not in an art class- all by himself), and generally does not like Maths or Science or sports.

One of the schools I have in mind is SOTA. Do you have other recommendations? Keeping in mind his below average skills in maths and science, I do not want to go for a school that would put undue pressure on him (even if he is able to secure admission by fluke) …
I do want him to be able to explore his artistic talent more as he grows. Any input is welcome !

          Go to https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/sg.parent

Open the DSA workbook. You may then shortlist schools by DSA talent areas

SOTA is the obvious choice. I dont know of any other school where he’d be truly happy at (based on your description of his talents, interests, strengths & weaknesses).

Really glad to see this forum exists!

My daughter just started P6 and we are interested in netball DSA for her to a few schools. Anyone has any experience on how is the DSA process like for Cedar Girls or Crescent Girls?

              TIA!
              HAPPY CNY!

Perhaps if you don’t mind, do share what was her leadership profile like, that got her to a waitlist and eventually convert. Was she a head prefect, did fund raising, CCA leader, etc.[/quote]

From experience of my daughter n my friend’s kids , any sort committee position is good enough to secure an interview . Then the rest is up to the kid’s performance during the interview . Don’t necessarily need to be head prefect or head of cca etc

But I must add that imho , they do place emphasis on results . These days , the schools are mindful about the kids being unable to cope with the curriculum should they be selected . My guess is 1-2 AL beyond the previous year cut off is still considered a safe zone .

It never was the only factor schools take into consideration esp qualitative dsa like leadership. By the way, nygh does not hv a leadership dsa per se so which dsa category she applied for?
For sports, yes if you are highly recommended or in national team, I think the schools will welcome you with no other factors like acad to be considered.
There was a new DSA leadership category for NYGH beginning last year .

Thanks for sharing! I think it’ll be more helpful if you share if they eventually got accepted and if it was a CO or a WL that was converted? also, which school did they get a CO/WL from?

She received interviews for leadership & EL DSA with the 2 top girl schools . Didn’t get offer for leadership . Got CO for EL .

The portfolio & results just get you thru the interview stage . My daughter didn’t have an impressive cca portfolio honestly . A cca committee position was good enough to secure an interview n that’s the first step into the door . She wasn’t even a prefect etc .

So imho, it’s still the performance during the interview that counts . She said there was another girl who spoke very confidently on her community charity work . She was certain that this girl got selected .

So I will just want to encourage parents that don’t be too worried if your kid’s portfolio doesn’t look impressive . Take the time now to hone your kids speaking skills . This is also very important for Sec cca trial selection . There are many cases where kids score impressive AL4, but didn’t get thru DSA/CCA interviews .

N of course , results do matter for reason that top schools these days are mindful that the kids can’t catch up academically .

Your DD’s CCA committee position was intended for the DSA talent domain of leadership, correct?
