2.RMO P6 Merit (did not do well at trial as too many homework. He did it in the midnight of the last day of deadline)

P5 School transcript (math1, science 2, English 5, Chinese 5). But he is top 3 in his class

I’ll be very honest with you coz I don’t want to waste one of your 3 slots . Your chance for math academic DSA to RI is not high . Cuz not only do they look for one of the top in Singapore for math , they look at the rest of the subjects for both p5 & p6 (as stated in RI website and from my son’s experience a few years ago).

In my son’s year , the Math DSA boys are the top 3 in Singapore.

She’s involved in many school wide activities, such as being emcee for various school events, being 1 of the 2 in the whole school to be selected for interview with Minister during school visits, and also responsible with sharing current affairs to the school.

Academics wise, I don’t think she can score in the low single digit, she is somewhere between AL 9-12, and also not in the prefectorial board.

Hello parents,
DS' school of choice is ACS Indep. He scored AL7 for which we are grateful.
Dilemma is whether he should try for
- First choice - ACSI IB which had balloting last year at AL7 (from what we read in this platform)
- Second choice - ACSI SEC which had balloting last year at AL8 (again based on what we read here)

He is afraid if the cut-off for both IB and SEC is each reduced by 1 point (+balloting), he may not get either as he has placed ACSI SEC as his second choice. As parent, I would like him to try for IB but i don't want to cost him his chance to be admitted to his school of choice.

I am even thinking of putting SJI IB as third choice (cut off last year was AL8), but that might be risky too.

Any views would be much appreciated!

Haha, school choices are just as stressful or i am overthinking it.

If ACSI is really my son’s choice , then I would put O level at first choice at at AL7. Even with that , there’s still a risk that the cut off might move unfavourably to take balloting risk . Why take an even riskier position of trying for IP at AL7? You might really end up with nothing .

The O level boys can take test for transfer to IP at end of sec 2. Your son can work towards that .

I agree with what Zac’s mum is saying . It isn’t that fun to take another national exam …

One of the beauty of IP bypassing O level is you can aim for an end-point of 4 subjects at A level . So along the way if the student mess up certain subjects , it’s kinda fine - just narrow down to the best 4.

No need to buy any external material for math . You would realise by now the schools gives a whole stack of math questions towards the year end for revision . RI math topic are quite accelerated . But if the child is willing to practise , it isn’t too difficult to nail it .

Speaking from RI experience - need not get AL1 for all subjects . My son (mainstream) was at AL5.
