The problem is... a lot of students (and parents) think that DSA is only used for getting into 'top' schools. I would not be surprised that a majority of the 'average' student would not be bothered to participate in the DSA exercise for an 'average' school.

Also, the optimist will think of the 'what if', especially the 'what if I suddenly score AL6'. After all, once you accepted a DSA offer, you cannot back out of the 'contract'.

Likewise, the pessimist will think of the other 'what if', such as 'what if I no longer like XXX and prefer AAA in secondary school'. After all, once you accepted a DSA offer, especially in sports or arts, you have to stick with it for another 4 years.
Oh... you cannot back out after accepting DSA? That's pretty strict 😓

Then again, why would you want to back out from a school that acknowledges your abilities and has plans for you? If you are still the wishy-washy type, then @floppy is right... better don't do DSA.

Wow, thanks for informing!! I didnt know about the switch until u mentioned.

          At their website:

“The 2022 Open House will be held on Saturday, 9 April 2022.

In view of the latest Safe Management Measures (SMMs), the ACS(I) Open House will be in-person instead of online as initially announced. More information will be made available closer to the date.“

It is not easy for a child/teen to decide for themselves if they can fully commit 4-6 years in an environment that they have never been in. At times, it could be a heavy training schedule .. at times, as they grow up they like to try different things or have other interests. I think they are at a stage whereby they are finding, exploring and that will help them develop their interest and find their ultimate direction in life. Other times, the child might want to back out because the DSA was encouraged and then decided by their instructors/coaches/parents.

Of course, there are many children who will follow through.. and many who will become successful because they didn’t give up.

To add on, it takes a lot of effort to prepare and get the “resume” up for DSA. It is not as easy as filling up an application and waiting for a lucky draw to happen.

Besides ACSI, which other Secondary schools also conduct on-site OH, this year (2022) ?

I do agree that it does take a while for someone to do DSA. The process can be quite involved. However, the task is still easier than to do than \"study\" to excel in PSLE. Success in DSA means less stress on the student when preparing for PSLE, while may actually lead to the the student doing better in PSLE :xedfingers: . Of course there's the small chance that the student might become so complacent that he/she scores less than the score required for Express students.

Oh yes it’s really a tremendous effort to get a successful DSA. Both child and parents have to be committed.. it is not easier than studying as studying is pretty much expected. It’s extra work and there’s no guarantee that you will be successful.

Less stressed during psle, perhaps. However it may not be a good thing.. the children I know whom already gotten a CO, so far all of them had performed less than expected. Not so bad that they miss the express cut off points, but definitely less than what was projected from their prelims.

Lol. Well, that's not my experience, but then again, on the flip side, getting that DSA is a thing of relief for them then, given their dismal PSLE performance 🙂

Excelling in PSLE becomes more of a matter of personal achievement goal, rather than a do-or-die objective. If someone does very well for PSLE while holding on to successful pending DSAs, we know that this person is truly talented and devoted to his/her personal goals.

                        Dear parents,

MY DD is going through DSA this year and I have read through the DSA 2021/2020 and is halfway thru the DSA 2019 thread. I have learnt many useful information through the generous sharing of active parents and is most grateful. I do have a question i would like to ask as I cannot seem to find the answer to it in the past threads and MOE DSA information website.

May I ask if it is possible to try to DSA to the same secondary school to the same domain (Performing arts) two times? My DD is competent in 2 music instruments that her preferred secondary school offers under the performing art domain. All answers are very much appreciated and thankful in advance 🙂
