Impressive achievemts tho, but he was doing Math in RI and NUSH right? Wish him all the best

My son is also Mensa member with 32certs of Math olym: All SIMCC comps, AMC8 Honour roll when he was in Pri6, but never got a call from nor shortlisted from any schools of his choice, he joined DSA from Sg International sch primary last 2020
I heard now int’l sch students cannot join DSA anymore…

My DD is luckier got called from all 3 or maybe just bcause she’s from local primary?
But from what I read here, shortlisted doesn’t mean anything at all 🤪😭😂 is it?

Is your son still active in Mensa Junior?
My son finished Phyton and looking for learning Java programming, but we can’t find any nearby center/tutor for him
so, what's the conclusion drawn ?

      Seeking clarification
      ================

Is there anywhere in \"black & white \" printed out , that state -

      1)
If a P6 DSA applicant study in an International school, and not in a local primary school,
then MOE \"Non-Independent \" Secondary schools eg. National Junior College
will not even consider them ?

      Or

      2)
If P6 DSA applicants study in International school, not in a local primary school, then \"Independent \" schools like

(NUS High / SST / RI / RGS / Hwa Chong / Nanyang Girls High / ACSI / MGS / SJI / SCGS)

will also not offer them any CO nor Waitlist ?

Maybe times have changed, my friend's daughter received two CO from NYGH, both academic domains. This was about 4 or 5 years ago.
Not sure exactly when it changed (maybe with common portal in 2019?), but currently I don't think the schools are allowed to issue more than one to any individual student.

I think some schools have said in the event that you are qualified for both they will give you a call and ask which one you want. Of course, this would be the definition of a \"high class problem.\"

Q: How many offers can I receive if I have applied to two talent areas from the same school?
A: The school will make only 1 offer in a specific talent area. The offer will be based on the school's assessment of your child's talent and the talent area that they can better develop your child in.

If your child is a Singapore Citizen, Permanent Resident, or an International Student who is residing in Singapore and holding a valid pass, they may take part in this DSA-Sec.

All International Students who are not residing in Singapore are not eligible to take part in DSA-Sec, but may consider to take part in the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) for admission into mainstream secondary schools.

I’m surprised and sorry to hear that despite your son’s achievements he wasn’t shortlisted; it’s possible that international students get much rarer quota than locals.

Can consider codinglab or sgcodecampus they’re quite decent in programming lessons and have online/Zoom class option too. But for some the classes could feel too slow.

I’d suggest C++ and competitive programming instead of Java. Or if making app/product is the aim, then mobile app dev and web stack are better. Also, in the industry, Java’s fate is now like PHP where its usage is mainly on existing/legacy systems, new & innovative tech companies no longer start with Java.

Students from international schools / foreign schools are not eligible for DSA. They should be applying for AEIS. Hence, not getting a call is due to ineligibility.

I was so worried about quota for NUSH DSA between SC-PR-Foreigners that last year I called them about it. What I was told over the phone was that there’s no differentiation/quota between SC & PR, but there is one for Foreigners, they didn’t give me the number though.

I think we can totally expect & understand the need for quota and it’s fair in my opinion, local schools must prioritize locals especially citizens. Also apparent from PSLE tie-breaking criteria that starts with citizenship, making PR students need to have 1 point better than cut-off-point to be sure about applying.
