If you would like to keep options open for engineering or medicine, the combo to go for would be Physics and Chemistry.
Actually we are also going for triple science, the reason being it will help keep options for engineering or medicine later on for example ,we take out bio or physics it could get tricky, because at this stage we don’t know what profession kid is going to pursue
If it's going to be medicine, all or nothing, the combo would be Chemistry and Biology.
Not sure how that's going to be 'tricky'.
If you don't do well in your one and only Humanities... now, that's going to be really tricky since you can't avoid it. Without a good Humanities alternative, your only option in JC is something / something M E, which is what the majority of students in the science stream will be doing. Economics, however, is not an easy subject to master and do well in.
As I said, I am still puzzled by the fascination with triple science these days. -

Humanity is a compulsory L1R5 subject. It is safer to take 2 humanity subjects , as backup.
Most of our leaders are humanities major.
But if my child really like science, then triple science is good. Else, triple science may not offer more practical benefits. -
I think the stress with DSA purely comes from parents. Some are making such a big deal out of it. I have known parents selecting and preparing their kids for DSA since Kindergarten 🤦
️. Of course it would add enormous amount of pressure onto the kids.
I think the system is fine. Like many mentioned, our family also love the audition/interview experience, learning opportunities, and chance to see the school/meet the teachers.
But it's also human nature trying to industrialize or take advantage of the system. Ruining kids childhood in the process. -

I think there is another batch to be interviewed on Thursday. That's why not much discussion going on?
This year seems not much DC got interview for nush? The thread at nush also very quiet as compared to past years.. -

Serious? This year got 2 days for interview?? I was still hoping they will announce results by Thursday? Cause traditionally they announce results 2 days after interview… so far among my DC and his classmates who went for round 2, only 1 classmate was invited for interview on Tuesday..

This explanation could not be more apt.
For children with ACTUAL PSLE AL score of AL4 to AL6, they can choose any school with that result.
Unfortunately, as of now, no one knows what their ACTUAL PSLE AL will be. Children who are currently AL4 (4 x AL1) could drop to AL8 (4 x AL2) and AL6 may end up with AL10. As a result, they might end up with a 'lesser' school compared with what they wanted to secure via DSA.
That’s the fear of most people. -

Oh yah, maybe the timing clash with school oral

Triple Sci is not a requirement for Medicine at university level. As many parents have mentioned Chem is compulsory and you can choose bio or physics. In JC you can only choose two sciences in any case. However from what I understand is that if you choose for eg chem and phy is upper sec it will be easier to take chem and phy in JC level than to go for biology as there will be a steep learning curve.
Actually we are also going for triple science, the reason being it will help keep options for engineering or medicine later on for example ,we take out bio or physics it could get tricky, because at this stage we don’t know what profession kid is going to pursue
Some kids are clear in not liking a particular science and choose to pursue either bio or physics (chem is compulsory). Some kids prefer to do all three as they like all sciences and are able to cope with the content. -
