EL and MT are compulsory subjects in secondary school. Hence, you can't have any subject combo without those two subjects in it.
While you can do triple science, I don't understand the fascination with the subject combo. If she is talented in the English language, I would have picked Lit and one other subject / SS, with two science subjects.
Make sense. Thanks a lot 🙏 💓 -
anyone received round 2 email from SST for 13 Aug?

Thanks all for the valuable advices and sharing

Hi, has anyone heard from scgs after the robotics trial?

Actually we are also going for triple science, the reason being it will help keep options for engineering or medicine later on for example ,we take out bio or physics it could get tricky, because at this stage we don’t know what profession kid is going to pursue

Triple science in upper sec is fine but it isn't really needed for \"options.\" At JC, the \"Science\" kids can only take math + two sciences. If one doesn't know what they want to do, I believe Physics and Chem will keep the most options open.
Actually we are also going for triple science, the reason being it will help keep options for engineering or medicine later on for example ,we take out bio or physics it could get tricky, because at this stage we don’t know what profession kid is going to pursue
Because of the JC/A Level changes, I think most uni tracks do not require Bio as a hard prerequisite to enter (Chem will do). Hence, taking both Chem and Physics in upper sec will keep pretty much all options open. Also, I think many JCs will also allow a student to take Bio even if they didn't take in Sec 3-4 as long as other science grades (perhaps Chem) are good. I.e. if find out you don't want to do Physics/engineering, you can always drop Physics and take Bio in JC1.
This is not to blindly say avoid triple science. If kids really love science and taking all three help them figure out what they want to do, then it is great. But it's not really need for the assumed logic above, and many kids could benefit from taking another humanities subject or doing something else with their time. -

If it's going to be medicine, all or nothing, the combo would be Chemistry and Biology.
Not sure how that's going to be 'tricky'.
If you don't do well in your one and only Humanities... now, that's going to be really tricky since you can't avoid it. Without a good Humanities alternative, your only option in JC is something / something M E, which is what the majority of students in the science stream will be doing. Economics, however, is not an easy subject to master and do well in.
As I said, I am still puzzled by the fascination with triple science these days. -

Humanity is a compulsory L1R5 subject. It is safer to take 2 humanity subjects , as backup.
Most of our leaders are humanities major.
But if my child really like science, then triple science is good. Else, triple science may not offer more practical benefits. -
I think the stress with DSA purely comes from parents. Some are making such a big deal out of it. I have known parents selecting and preparing their kids for DSA since Kindergarten 🤦
️. Of course it would add enormous amount of pressure onto the kids.
I think the system is fine. Like many mentioned, our family also love the audition/interview experience, learning opportunities, and chance to see the school/meet the teachers.
But it's also human nature trying to industrialize or take advantage of the system. Ruining kids childhood in the process. -
