Yes agreed - just to clarify, you asked her to accept CO of “lesser sec Sch instead” but she decided to work doubly hard for PSLE to prove she is no lesser in academics than students in dream school or the “lesser school”? Which school (dream or “lesser”) did she accept CO of in the end?
Eventually she stuck to her guns and accepted the CO from the champion team/Sch.

Just wondering what would the considerations be for like performing arts since there isn’t quite a champion school per se.

Asking on behalf of a friend who is torn between NJC and RVHS, which schools if child likes both schools?

        Thanks!

Presumably, if there isn't a \"champion school\" for a specific talent, then the considerations relate more to the school itself, e.g. school name, culture, past year performance, alumni, activities, convenience etc.

Those are my guiding principles too, by the way.

            Ask her to find out

            1) which school have got more caring teachers, inside the school. Not those Teachers or VP or Principal, who only care about KPI, chasing after grades and results at the end of the day, but don't bother about students' welfare at heart. This is very important.

            2) which school have got better quality and good A-level hardworking school Teachers who bother to walk the extra mile, inside both IP-JC (if any), for the 4 H2 A-level subjects, she has in her mind.

No matter which DSA domain your friend's kid entering by (via), at the end of the day, the exit point, is important.

            Here, in kiasuparents forum,
very little info is shared, at A-level.
Mostly, is those usual sharing by a few parents. What u need, is info sharing, by students themselves, not so much the parents. After all, the parents don't study in these schools. Is the students who study, in the IP schools.

Ask your friend's kid to go Reddit to read. There is plenty of good, useful info available there, sharing by the up-todate A-level students there, themselves.

Some Sch are well known for some of their performing arts than others (ie every SYF distinction or reknown instructor) you just need to find out if it matters to you. Eg Cedar and MGS are well known for their handbell ensemble while SCGS is well known for their Chinese and modern dance.
Otherwise, it’s really culture (ie multi-racial or SAP), school values, environment, friends? and all others.

Performing arts - if you want to know which school is stronger in this area would be to see their past achievements in SYF (ie distinction award). Other than that, the key difference would be SAP and non-SAP school culture.

Finally done with trials and interviews.

DD now focuses on exams while parent patiently waits for outcomes in the next few weeks.

                      Good luck to all!

The timeline differs across schools. Many schools will inform the outcome from early Sep and latest by 12th Sep 2022 (Mon).

You may visit schools' websites to check if they indicate the expected date. For e.g., for NUS High, successful applicants will be notified of the selection outcome on 13 Aug 2022 according to its website

                        https://www.nushigh.edu.sg/admissions/year-1-and-3-admissions/year-1-admissions

                        All the best.
