Hi, may i check for DSA-performing arts, do they usually do an audition first, then come back for an interview (shortlisted applicants) on another day? Heard some parents said that usually they will grant auditions for all, those who grant interviews then are the ones with chances. Need to count how many urgent leaves to take... hahaha

Are they cases where a child only needs to go for audition and gets CO? Just curious...
I saw in previous years’ threads that (for non-SOTA) the performing arts audition will include a short q&a at the end of the item. I suppose this is to save time for all involved. In some schools, due to time constraints (eg too many candidates), the item (usually music) will be curtly cut short by the panel after the first impression is obtained. Let your child be mentally prepared that this is not necessarily a snub, doesnt mean they dont like the performance.

        For Performing Arts,

interview will be done on the SAME day, after your kid put up a performance.

        Sometimes,
the interview is done by the Seniors (Secondary school students themselves), not necessarily must always be the presence of ( Teacher-in-charge and VP / P ).

        Example

        At Dunman High (IP school),
Who interviewed the P6 students ?

Is the Seniors (Secondary school students themselves). They interviewed more than 20+ candidates, on the same day these P6 students were tested (audition).

This is Round 1 interview, conducted by the Seniors themselves. These Seniors will do the \"elimination\". Very fast ! After the P6 candidates played their own instrument they brought along there, the Seniors asked each of them a few questions, around 5 to 10 minutes, then bye-bye. These Seniors will also ask the P6 candidates, \"Do you have any question, for us ?\"

After Round 1 interview was over, out of 20+ candidates who were tested, in the end, 3 were finally selected. And these 3, then go and meet both (Performance Tr in charge + VP), at the Round 2 interview, on another day. These 3 candidates were proposed by the Seniors, after attending Round 1 interview. Out of these 3 candidates, 2 got selected, eventually. One didn't make it. This was the DSA Performance Arts exercise, that took place in Year 2019.

Your child can attend the audition. Go for the DSA exposure / experience.

At the Round 2 interview, if your kid has been short-listed :-

        a) the Teacher-in-charge (Performance Arts) will ask in-depth questions, about your ( musical instrument / knowledge ) acquired mastery skill,

        while

        b) the VP will ascertain (assess) your academic prowess, the comfort level, whether they feel that you are able to cope with the IP academic rigour, or not.

        Eg.
One may be skillful in playing a musical instrument. But if your school academic progress is so-so only, then No, they won't offer u any CO.

        But, reality is ...
the Total number of COs (Performance Arts) offered are very few, per batch.

          thank you for the insights!

I guess COs for all CCAs are limited, having an experience for auditions/interviews is already considered a win. WL/CO will be a bonus.

Just received an e-mail from SJI to submit artwork for the VA DSA. Don’t know if this is a shortlisting but happy to have heard back from one of the 3 schools so far.

Yes, I also know that. This is why I had asked if anyone had experience from the past on timelines since SJI's guidance was a bit cryptic. No matter, e-mail received for submission of artwork so all good though it's unlikely a shortlisting (my guess) yet 🙂
