I am facing the same situation 2nd choice school. Actually I am quite unhappy and pissed on this tactic by the coaches (offline), I don't think school will do this or maybe I am wrong. It should be as transparent and fair selection as it should be decide on who you want to give the CO base on merit.
Yes, you are right on point about this issue ; the thing is probably cos this school is an Olevel sec sch hence they have limited CO that they can offer ? At this moment, they wanted the confirmation from the child which is causing much stress, as the child is still undecided at this point of time , but much pressure is apply to provide a answer now or it means that the child doesn’t want to accept this CO n they will withdraw it now .
Any other parents whom received a sport CO & facing similar issue as this ? Must the decision be made asap ? -
I am a bit unfamiliar with sports area. Pls enlighten ; if a CO is given by one of the 2/3 schools the child has applied to, wouldn’t that be a happy news? Say if the CO is given by the 1st choice school, would this still be an issue?
-
Is it right to say, this pressuring problem by coach only happens or felt by parents n kids when the CO comes from the 2nd/3rd choice school?
-
Getting CO is such a wonderful achievement for the child. Glad that MOE allows 3 choices. Imagine if we were not given 3 choices. It will 10x more stressful…

I have 5 kids who have DSA-ed and 3 in top tier schools previously and one on the way in. IMHO, I think it’s bad to "hog" schools especially if U don’t have the intention to accept the offer. Of course I understand we want the best for our kids, but we have to be fair to the school and others who really want to get in. Just my humble 2 cents worth.

As parents, we hope that it should be fair and square, going through the proper channel. However, a lot of times, it doesn't work that way. If its 1st choice, I guess this won't be an issue, only if offer coming from 2nd/3rd choice.

I am also thinking of this situation though it has not happen to me (yet). Anyway, I had decide (if it happen) to get in touch with the in-charge for my girl's 1st choice and check with her directly if my girl stand a chance because she has been offered by another school? Its better to be transparent since the sporting world in Singapore is so small.
Finger x that it won't happen to me. Come to think of it, I have received a couple of miss calls recently but I didn't think much of it. -

Ultimately, it’s your choice. We don’t live in an ideal world so no ideal solutions. As you mentioned, the school doesn’t want to so-called “waste” its offer, and put the stress on the parents and child.
It would be an ideal situation if it is really what your child wants.
The dilemma arises because the school indeed is not the first choice. That’s exactly why they have to do this.
We also discussed before how the CO and WL work on result day. And that is complicated. That’s why some schools do this to mitigate the issues. It’s not ideal of course, but I can’t think of any other way for them to gauge the interest.
Maybe tell them the truth that you need xx days to consider?
Imo, from what I observed for last year it could be the selection of schools that were chosen/ made by our DC.
Example:
#1 IP school
#2 IP school
#3 O level school.
The school #3 might throw out this question to DC/ parents first whether you really want their school especially if they think your DC chances to be chosen by #1 and #2 is high and the likelihood of you ranking the IP schools over school #3 thereafter. This is more eminent in sports domain…
I believe coaches preference list would be the first, and then followed by next level of discussion with all domain teachers and principal and etc. single decision cannot be made by coaches nor the CCA teachers alone.
I dont think DSA is as transparent as S1 posting. There is alot of criteria that goes behind the official criteria that is posted on individual school website/ MOE guidelines that we will not be disclosed to.
The waiting game is nerve-wrecking but this phase will be over soon. Hang in there, all parents! -

To add on, in this scenario, from sch #3 perspective, sch would want to give CO to serious applicant whether it's sch 1st choice or 2nd choice instead of giving WL to 2nd choice. The sense of pride from getting CO from a school will mean the whole whole to this \"2nd choice\" kid, which may even be his 1st choice.

Agree that it is likely 1st choice kid has high chance to get their sch #1 or #2.
