I think I saw some news that this year DSA application was higher compared to last year. So is the DSA intake for those IP schools higher than last year? Will this impact the cutoff points to even lower for the few limited vacancies now?
I was just chatting with my friend about this yesterday.

Last year is the year of Tiger. Hence the birth rate is lower as compared to previous year and this year. If you noticed, last year some of the schools cut off point are higher (Easier to get in). I did advise my friend to put a cut off point either the same or higher for her kid's first choice. In general, Rabbit birth rates are higher and hence more students for the same number of space. I suppose same goes to DSA assuming schools did not increase the intake.

Was thinking if I may overstep. Just sharing my view.

Sch teachers will not know if the child has tuition for every subject or not. They can only know the child to a certain extent. Many educators see children in positive light
Parents will know their child best.
No worries, its good to open up for discussion.

Those teachers who I spoke to, mostly know my girl personally. This include a school teacher who is our direct neighbor, her tutor, a family friend who knows everything about my kids and she is teaching in a IP school. Her 3 years form teacher who is in close contact with us. My girl is committed to her talent which requires insane hours of training thus tuition is minimum. And this year, she went through a lot (including injury) which impact her performance in her talent as well as mental stress arising from it. Yes, Parents will know best but when the path our kids choose are not the normal or popular ones, we tend to doubt ourselves too.

Anyway, just sharing our journey for this DSA route. 😄

Previously I am in a dilemma as my girl did not score well at all in prelims hence I was hesitating if we should continue to try for the IP school which she wants. She was far from the cut off of that school but was offered a WL.

I spoke to a number of parents and teachers including one who is from that IP school. In general from what I gather, it is only the parents who are more concern and is comparing the PSLE score and the school’s cut off. The teachers on the other hand care more about the student’s attitude. A number of friends were discouraging us from trying for the IP school due to my girl’s prelims score. On the other hand, all the teachers I spoke to (who know my girl personally) told her to go for it and emphasis on having the correct attitude upon entering the school. They as teachers have seen a lot, all kinds of students and it really doesn’t matter what PSLE score they had, once their attitude is wrong and they took the easy way out, the result most likely will be a dropout.

The DSA community are looking beyond the academic nowadays. Its the soft skills which they are looking for which will carry the students through the tough secondary school life, balancing both studies and the DSA talent area.

Thanks for the insightful sharing.. any idea how many wl do schools normally issue ie 50% of their co numbers or lesser?
Its anyone's guess and normally school do not want to commit in giving out a number. This question had been asked before and the teacher in charge said \"Chances are high.\" As there's too many variants, its really difficult to know.

At this point, just take it positively as there's still a possibility instead of a direct rejection.
But at the same time, prepare for a back up/alternative.

All the best to the WL candidates (including my girl)! May we hear some good news in Nov!

I think it depends on a number of things,

      1) Which school
      2) Which steam (IP/O)
      3) Child’s ranking in the wait list.
      4) High much the school emphasis on that particular sport.

According to MOE, about 50% of WL gets converted. According to my girl’s WL school in charge, quite high percentage as the school focus on the sport she is in.

Really want to thank everyone here for your advices. I may not have reply in time but I do appreciate all the exchanges.

After chatting with my girl's form teacher, we have decided to put our WL school as 1st choice and CO as 2nd choice. Regardless if WL is converted, we will be happy with our CO school. So its another 2 months wait for us to buy uniform. 😓

Such a valuable experience walking through DSA this year. :congrats: to all CO & WL. Will still be around to share what we learnt and also to prepare for my younger girl's turn in 5 year's time!

All the best to PSLE and parents, hang in there just a little longer!

My dd rejection is from a school which we are rather confident whereby the WL is from a school we have the least hope.

The acad domain is not an issue here as both the same. My dd DSA is for sport. WL school has a very strong culture in that sport and in my view, understand about the sport and is doing the right thing to support their athlete students. However, the school is far from our place and my girl acad is not strong hence worry if she will struggle there. I did check with her tutor and school teacher. They said they believe she will do fine there.

Whereby the CO comes from a school nearer to my house and overall a better fit for my dd. However, in terms of supporting their athlete students, I feel that they lacking. The trade off for this school is that my dd has to spend 2 additional hours each week (About 3-4hours in total including travelling) on top of what she is already doing for her sport as the school requirement.

The aim for DSA is to continue my dd passion. Hence we are happy to go to either school. Our headache is if we want to
put the WL as 1st choice or just forgo it to go direct to the CO school.

Gd morning all, not sure if anyone asked this before: For instance, during the School Submission Preference, if my DD wants to put RGS as 1st choice (which she didn't apply DSA to), and NYGH (which she got CO) as 2nd, is this ok? If eventually her AL cannot meet RGS cutoff, will NYGH still accept her? Thanks!
This is DSA school submission preference. Hence you can only submit your choices which is CO and WL.
If you want RGS, then you have to consider giving up your CO and using academic result to go in.

This has been one roller coaster ride for us. We have got all 3, rejection, WL & CO. The WL is my girl's 1st choice but now she is having 2nd thought to exercise it as she said she feels like she's not good enough and is a back up. She is now in a dilemma if she wants to exercise her WL or just accept the CO.

Challenge is when your first choice school offers you a WL and your second choice school offers you a CO. If you tell the second choice school (verbal offer) that you would still rank the first choice WL above their CO, would they still offer the CO to you rather than giving it to the next in line?
This is indeed challenging! TBH, we have not thought of this possible scenario. Hopefully it won't happen to any one of us!

Now when we did not receive any news, we are killing ourselves with the \"what if?!\" 😓
