If you look that the cut off point tables every year, there are a lot of students with AL4-5 who chose to join neighbourhood schools, some down below the ranking table. They are not the majority but it’s not rare either.
True. This is not new. Even 35 yrs ago in my neighborhood school, the highest scoring girl was 274 if I recall. And there are several kids > 265!! (It was a “wtf!” 1st day of school for me that I can’t forget). So although elite schools are desirable to many, the cream will rise to the top eventually, wherever they are

It’s off topic; but do you know how are these 260+ 270+ laybacks doing now?

my ds got WL from both RI & HCI, now we need to decide which one to be first choice.. 😞
anyone knows which WL got higher chance for conversion? heard HCI's chance is pretty high?
I think u should go for the school which your child really wants rather than worry which one gets converted. I would presume all the chances are about the same, but u never know where ur kid ranks in the wait list. Hopefully, the number one choice converts

To him, just study hard for psle now

Yes. Still have groupchat with most. The top girl is a doctor. 3 doctors in our class that I know of. Most doing well I suppose… wide range.

[Just for context, in the sec1 class (top class) score was 247-274. About half of us are in same class for 4 years]

I don't think anyone will give up RI CO, to be frank.
                    Of course, have !

There are students who gave up RI (CO), chose Hwa Chong because prefer SAP school environment culture .

                    OR

give up RI (CO), because prefer to go to ACSI (IB) or go NUS High.
Not everyone is crazy, after RI

Like to seek advice on whether NUSH or IP is better? DS has avid interest in math, but we are apprehensive to go for NUSH.

                      1. Would it be too specialized/narrow a path to choose at such young age?
                      2. Would IP schools have wider exposure?
                      3. How would choosing either have any possible impact on subsequent tertiary route?

Appreciate some advice pls. Thank you in advance.

                        All depend on
whether your son is confident coping with NUS High academic rigor next 6 years, if he is offered CO
