Hi Brenda!

I need ur help.I posted in P3/4 sci thread.no body answer.
could u pls help me with the following qn?
I have a qn from Conquer Sci assessment book Exercise65 Q2.

A syringe has 10ml air at first. After pushed the plunger in,the picture shows less than 10 ml.(picture showed in the book, before and after)
What is the true reading of the volume of air in the syringe after the plunger was pushed in?
Answer provided as 10 ml.Is that answer is correct? If yes why?

If we pushed in should be less than 10 ml as air can be compressed.

Hi smartmummy,

The answer is right as air can be compressed and 10ml is correct.

In gases, the particles are quite far apart. Gases have no definite shape and no definite volume and can be compressed (up to a certain level).

Sorry as my explanation is not good and hope other experts will get back to your asap.

Brenda, before push only 10ml,after pushed also 10ml :? Do u have conquer book the pic show clearly.
Hi smartmummy

This is because there isn't any hole for air to escape after the push. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Volume means occupy the space isnโ€™t it? still I confused. Gas has no definite volume.

Hello, smartmummy,
:imsorry: I have not touched on this - which topic is this? My DD1 just covered Materials and Life cycle this term.

Sista Brenda has replied you and perhaps you be patient, wait a little longer and there will be experts to answer your query in the P3/P4 Science thread.

Sorry can't be of help as I am also a learning mummy/student! ๐Ÿ˜‰
