just to make sure we are talking about the same place ....

is it the old pre-war shophouse along havelock road near beo crescent?

Should be, I only know one there.

I not so lucky, I have not met any celebrities there.

then again, I may not recognise them since I only know the older ones. šŸ˜ž

          mathsparks:
:? Is this how to spell chok (cantonese for porridge)..not refering to teochew porridge..but the thicker type.

The stall we used to buy from at a kopitiam at junction of everitt rd/joo chiat place is no longer there. They served excellent pork/fish chok.

The porridge at 126 is nice too but I've noticed it turns watery if you dont consume it straightaway.

Anyone knows where I can get delicious pork porridge (with liver, of course)?
mathsparks, why dont you try the one at Blk 85 Fengshan market, very long queue.

One of the helper, he dye his hair blonde ... cannot miss the stall ....

BTW, I was always curious about the origin of the word \"congee\", so I just googled it.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congee

It's derived from a Tamil word!!

                  schweppes:
Actually, the Chai Chee porridge stall also sells in the mornings too as I've eaten there for breakfast. I think there are 2 branches - one handles the breakfast crowd and the other the evening crowd.

2 branches in the same block isit?

                    sakura_2009:

Errr, my MIL used to buy it at a provision store and cook porridge for my DS when he's a baby, she tells me its pearl rice :? ... but it actually looks like calrose rice to me though - short and round grain...
                    Thanks, sakura.
                    ksi:
If you use calrose rice, you can use on its own but add more water and less rice grains because it can become too thick.
                    Thanks ksi, ks2me(???)

Does congee become watery if you leave it standing for too long?

For late night supper, I like to frequent the one at Chinatown, (chang cheng).. it opens till 1am I think.. the chok is not bad.. For convenience, I like the tiong bahru porridge at Causeway point food court. Not bad too. šŸ™‚

                        Hi!

My family loves the pork congee from Bedok Blk 216 hawer centre. Smooth congee with pork slices, self-made pork balls, liver/intestine. egg is optional. Other version like century egg with pork is also very good. Try it.
