Wow thanks for your reply again! Appreciated!

Funny enough I do not see the group 3 score required for in MOE DSA website for RI...

      Posting group 3 means ...

      G3 group Sec 1 posting,

where your PSLE score lies between

      4 to 20

      How to interpret ?

      That means,
even if your PSLE score turn out to be AL 20 for your 4 subjects,

you still can enter Sec 1 RI -

      assuming that
RI has indeed offered your kid a CO and that your P6 son has also accepted the CO.

If your son can sob while doing school homework, that shows that he got anxiety ...
yep...he is also super sensitive one. so we try not pushing him too hard.

I emailed RI to ask whether DSA applicants with high AL point during P5/6 will not be considered. RI replied this

“ Your child will need to achieve a PSLE score that qualifies for Posting Group 3”
This is as good as it gets for an official answer from all schools. Not sure if this will help you but there are factually numerous instances of students with >AL13 entering top tier schools. As to how they cope eventually is another matter altogether; not all kids are built the same. Some will succumb to the pressure while others thrive and excel.

Parents know their child's character and mental grit - if you think they are strong enough to withstand the potential pressure, then by all means go for it.

Even if your child with AL 20 were to enter RI via a DSA acceptance offer, everything is reset from Day 1, Sec 1 (RI).

Your son will run, will start another brand new race, in Sec 1. Whether he run well or not down the track until 18 years old (A level), only time will tell.

All schools under DSA exercise fall under the same: ie. AL20 for PSLE score ,your child's CO will be valided and your spot in the school is confirmed.

ps. I also understand that students with CO from OLP schools and scores AL22 PSLE gets spots also but i'm not too sure about this.

                Note

This is a standard, diplomatic answer / reply, given by all DSA Secondary schools in Singapore. Not just by RI only.
Just for some non-scientific , light-hearted discussion only.

                I guess only ah.
See if it’s a logical way to think:

If I’m the RI dsa panel, given equally qualified / talented candidates in front of me,

AL 4-6 : you can try again during psle, give others a chance please.

AL 7-8-9: let’s give it a shot at these kids.

AL double digits : I also want to help you but is it too far a stretch? The child will be suffering at the end of it’s a mismatch.

Hmm…. Allow me to add another possible decision making scenario of RI selection panel:

“This boy is from a single parent family. Is helping to deliver food to needy old folks since 10 yo. He does this bcos he has been beneficiary himself of charitable acts from others. Take up alot of his time but during interview he said he want to help others in return. His P5 AL score has been around AL 16. And he manage to improve slightly to AL15 in P6. His family couldn’t afford tuition. I think we can consider him for his Social leadership DSA application. DSA application to RI was suggested by a grassroots volunteer. He seem to possess the discipline and will to improve himself despite having less ideal family circumstances. He is quite mature for his age and it is rare. He seem to have demonstrated the attitude to manage and get by in difficult circumstances, which is helpful for RI rigorous curriculum, and yet still have the capacity to help others. With more support in RI, I think he can achieve even more for himself and others around him. Don’t forget, officially we cannot write off any DSA applicant as long their AL score is 20 or lesser.”

There are people who got into RI via DSA with AL4 to AL10+. As one parent put it - everything is reset from Day 1 of Sec 1 and AL no longer matters.

What matter is whether your child can adapt to the academic rigour and the demands of the CCA which he is expected to honour his commitment to it and participate in the activities related to the talent he is selected for from Year 1-4.

                      ...
During RI interview, they will also ask you (student) -

how did you get your AL 4 to 6 ? Interviewers have a way, to extract out honest answers (reply), from the P6 applicants.

                      Why ?

                      Because

If u (student) get your AL (4 to 6) because your parents send u for tuition in every single subject, RI may not want u.

                      Why ?

                      Because

It shows that u can't study all subjects on your own. Every single subject, you need to rely on tuition teacher, in order to survive.

Don't forget, when go IP : a lot of things, u got to do it on your own. So, if by P6, u still can't study independently on your own, but keep relying on your parents to spend $ to send u for tuition, u think .... RI want you, just because u managed to acquire

AL (4 to 6), through tons of tuition ?

                        Not funny.

                        Is just that the
                        ( group 1, group 2, group 3 ) scores -
the Principal, the VPs in each primary schools have already informed all the 2024 P6 students, what each grouping range is. The P6 students have already been briefed in primary schools, what it all means. Is like ... General knowledge if u (student) are sitting for PSLE, and need to understand how Sec 1 posting works.

So, this type of Group 1 or Group 2 or 3 posting -

Is never tied to any Secondary school.
