We have to find out what is root cause of the \"off-balance\" and rectify from the root not just use medicine to make us feel better. For example, a few months ago, my blood pressure was high and I even had to take Amlodipine every morning to lower my blood pressure. Then what is the cause of hypertension? The western doctor said it was due to my age and just asked me to take Amlodipine. The problem is I suffer from constipation after taking Amlodipine and the western doctor suggest me to take Laxative at the same time.
I take a more Western view in that if the body is already off-balance, it may benefit from some active measurement, than living uncomfortably or painfully with the symptoms and waiting for things to get better. All of medicine is about weighing the benefits and the costs or risks and there are consequences with over and under 'medicalizing'.
I don't think it should be the way for me. Finally I examine my life style and the food I eat everyday. I try to go to bed before 1130pm at night and cut down meat and oil, increase the portion of vegetables and fruits in my diet. I walked up 4 storey to my office after lunch instead of taking the lift. I have already stopped taking Amlodipine for a month but my blood pressure is stable at 130 / 80 these few weeks with no more constipation. -

I wasn’t able to respond earlier as I was ‘bar’ fr KSP this morning.
sorry for the delayed reply - i was stuck at meetings the whole am.
please watch out for anaemia if you are experiencing heavier-than-usual flows. Women are prone to it.
I am the opposite actually - I've been on various implants so I kind of have forgotten what it is like to experience the time of the month lol
My sense is that most doctors and patients in Singapore are very resistant towards any form of progesterone, estrogen etc whether it is for HRT or birth control.
I read s’time back that HRT medication can cause cancer & doctors had refrained fr prescribing. Not sure if any other research debunk this.
My own experience with peri-menopause had been over nearly 10 years both with heavy flows & trickles off that lasted longer than my normal. Then I had days when it’s only barely light spots & no heavy flow despite waiting in preparation but nvr continue. Then it stopped in my early 50s.
Had some occasions of hot flushes but barely feels it often. Had some days with dry & rough skin but eventually rebounded. No temperamental changes. Had insomnia since then but lately, I was able to get earlier to sleep. -
Great to hear that!
Yes, much of western medicine is about treating the symptoms, not the root cause. It’s good to identify and eradicate the root cause, if one is able to.
For me, if it is an acute (and not chronic) matter, I just take whatever relieves me of pain and discomfort and symptoms lol. -

It's good to know that there are treatments, but I can't help as I didn't do anything about it. I think I didn't have it too badly. Since every woman experiences it differently, I think it's up to each one to decide what and how much to medicate.
Personally to me..if thing is ok ok ..or the minor off balance is bearable, I will just let the body works on it. -
I am going thru it right now.
Aunty M went missing for 3 mths then came for a prolonged visit this mth. I noticed my moods being off kilter last year and am more prone to muscle cramps. There were a few episodes of mild hot flashes. I started taking supplements meant for women going through menopause and I think it does help some.
Elder sis has been going through all these meno symptoms for the last 2 years. At her latest checkup, they found that the cyst that has been there since her 20s has grown by about 1cm since her last check. Gynae recommended that she go for a full hysterectomy. My initial thought was that was kinda extreme since we do not have any family history of cancer, there was no mention even of doing a biopsy or anything, just straight recommendation for removal. The gynae's logic is just remove since over and done with child birthing and already in menopause, then you have 1 less organ to worry about cancer developing. I am not discounting her gynae's logic but every surgery carries a risk, why subject yourself to such a risk if there is no need. Maybe just need to find out more since with all the advancement in medical technology, the risks may be a lot lesser.

Hysterectomy was recommended to a friend who was anaemic since her cycle was going haywire and she was losing too much blood.
Pardon me but how do we know when the onset of menopause is? -

I still remember we talked abt it few years ago. I was then got a 'shock'..NO..not when I was abt to pass that stage and need to anticipate/endure for another 10years. I hope it won't happen so badly too. At my age, it should be very near by now. So far still feeling ok.i just hope that when it is time to stop, just stop.

I’d normally go for 2nd opinion esp with many young doc looking for more ops to chalk up experiences. I always fall back on Dr Tham Kok Fun who was UK trained & will always put his patients interests first. I’ve thereafter read many many accolades about him then realized I trusted the right surgeon. -

Menopause symptoms occur roughly in the 40s-50s. You can only really know when menopause occurred (12 mths since the last period) in hindsight! I think those of you young enough not to have started yet should just not think about it too much. You may be one of those who don't have it too bad. Time enough to consider things like surgery when you have to.

But but but, most of us on implants, won’t really know cos we don’t get Aunty Ms …
