Nice, you always have enjoyable cny!
I actually don't like the CNY food in blue above, and strictly limit bak kwa which we all like. Usually I will buy just 1 packet and cut into small pieces to ration them out. And we get to eat some when visiting other people!
Luckily, my husband is the youngest of 7, and his eldest brother's wife is the best cook. And his eldest 2 sisters do most of the organising. So ever since I joined the family, for family events, I just show up and eat!
My mom cooked and when everyone ready at the table..the scene of my mom rushing to take shower, wiping sweat and positioning the fan to her keep replaying in my brain. -

I won't compare. Ntuc coz of convenience and another is SS (only at 1 location) ..used to like but now after reno...no appeal le.
yes, must count and buy in multiples of $80 to get the Return Voucher.
Come to think of it, last year it was $6 for every $55 spent; I think last year's deal was slightly better.
Compare this promo with the other supermarkets, which one offers the BEST deal ? -

Even if I were going to try to get the return vouchers (which I'm not), I wouldn't explore other supermarkets. I'm familiar with the ones I frequent, and that's enough to remember already 4! 2 SS, and 2 FP Finest. I already was so fed up when 2 of them were renovated recently - everything got moved around and I had to hunt for them. And the shelf signs are really not very helpful.

My dh often asked why I prefer to shop at NTUC X to NTUC Y since both are NTUC. He doesnt know that it is easier for me to hunt for the items I want in a familiar NTUC. It can be real annoying trying to look for an item in a big supermarket. -

And our supermarkets are already not that big! When I was in the UK/US/Aus, the supermarkets were really overwhelming. And I don't like shopping anyway.

After the SS renovation, I just asked the staff who were nearby, where did xyz items get shifted to. They are very friendly and helpful especially if u ask in Chinese. Agree that there are no helpful signs, unlike in CS and FP where i just look at the category signs hanging above the aisles.
I used to work part time as a supermarket cashier in AU. We were supposed to memorize the aisle numbers and what category of food they held, in case customers asked. But generally that info was the domain of the stockists on staff. -

Yes, I was doing that a lot initially. It just takes effort to remember how things are laid out.

2nd para - like a librarian! When I started working, I was totally amazed by the experienced staff who used to know where everything was! I got better over time, and we didn't rearrange the shelves while I worked there! -

It does take a few more trips for the new muscle memory to be built up again.

I recently watched this interesting CNA “Nudge” docu-series episode with DS. There is a part which discusses how some supermarkets use psychology on customers:

slmkhoo, we cannot be more alike in this aspect.
I got irritated when the usual supermarkets I go to reorganised their shelves. I usually know what I need/want to get and will make a beeline for those shelves. When they shift things around I have to reorientate. Waste time and sometimes miss out items that I want cos cannot find.
