All About Fencing

Hi ANobleNerd,
Thanks for the feedback! Ya I mean United Square. One reason I was considering them is the large pool of fencers. I was thinking it would provide a good practice for kids to spar against each other.
For the Z Gala, is it open for outsiders? Any recommendations of good trainers? -
I'm not sure if the Z Gala is opened to members of the public, but perhaps it will be good to call up Z Fencing to inquire.
If your child is starting out in fencing, you'll be signing up for the classes, rather than for the coaches (although all their coaches are experienced and have competition-experience either from China, Germany or Hungry). It's only after you've got the basics of fencing familiarised, and when you're doing competitive fencing that you might want to sign up for individual coaching sessions. In that case, they have a few coaches ranging from a former Olympics Silver medalist to a German-team national fencer to even our own Singaporean national team SEA-games medalist to choose from.
Each of their coaching styles differs, and it's good to know the kind of fencer your child is to find the best fit.

Thanks for your detailed feedback. I will call Z fencing to find out if I can find a suitable timing for my children. Exciting to know that in the future they can sign up national fencers!

why don’t yall try blade club? i train there weekly and training there is very good as it helped me up to the national team. now im in the national team, so i highly recommend blade club as a good fencing centre.
-
just to mention, blade club also sells fencing equipment, but you have to train there, and the rates, if im not wrong, are cheaper than Z-fencing.
-
may i know how long did u take to progress to national level? Are u in sec school now or jc?

Blade Club is a good club too, but it’s just that they don’t have that number of fencers that Z has to provide varied sparring.
Frankly, I don’t really know how the curriculum is carried out in the other clubs, but for Z Fencing, what I like is that they have a certain set of curriculum they follow, and you know what technical level the child is at by the badge they obtained. It’s clear and progressive.
Furthermore, Z Fencing has been appointed to direct the coaching and curriculum development for the new Fencing Academy of the Singapore Sports School (SSP) in 2012. -
so may be our friend from blade club can advise whether there is a set of curriculum at blade club?

I think, like all other sports, to do well in fencing, you need to invest quite a number of hours per week to practise the skills and do physical conditioning. Having many sparring partners also helps to expose the fencer to various styles.
Fencing is not very common in Singapore and I think most of the fencing coaches at the clubs are foreign talents so they will all "import" their own experience to coach the fencers. You can view the results of the recent Singapore Fencing Minime Championships on the Fencing Singapore’s website. They do indicate the clubs to which the fencers belong to. -
Hi i wanna buy a good quality sabre cuz i broke my china sabre last week. Does anyone know where i can buy one in Singapore for cheap? i prefer allstar. thanks!
