Mamamal:
You are in the same situation as me a year ago, when my son started exhibiting a series of unhealthy learning habits. We evaluated MindChamps but started him only in February of the following year as we thought the crash course will not be so effective. Subsequently, I benefited from MindChamps as a parent, and my son did improve, but I do not attribute his improvement as a direct consequence of his MindChamps classes. If anything, I think my son's improvement from last year was largely due to my change of parenting style from authoritarian to authoritative.Any recommendations? Am thinking of sending my boy for some thinking course to boost his creativity, esp in compo.
I have checked with Mind Champs, but find the schedule too demanding and a huge investment - 5 no.s of bi-weekly lessons (9 am to 5pm) for $3000.
Anyone sent your kid to Edward de bono Thinking Course? They have one starting on 19-21 Nov (3 days) @$300.
Comments ?
I would recommend that you see if there are worthwhile parenting talks that you attend yourself and with your spouse. Sometimes, we seem to think we know what is best for our own children. Attending these talks/courses will make us re-evaluate how we effective we really are as parents, and learn how we can reach out to our children. -
Thanks for your comments. You are right, every individual is different and has different needs. Till now, i still believe my eight-year old still behaves like a 5-year old, always needs reminding. Still hoping one day, he will grow up… but on the other hand, wish that his innocence will never go away…

Hi BarneyHi
I've been planning to send my nephew to one their courses since March this year but the plan did not materialised as he always have holiday programs clashing with the schedule.

Not sure if their courses are good as they are quite affordable, someone attended his mind mapping course at SIM and told me it was good ...
Any one has tried before or has any comments
I sent my son for the Mind map course last year. However, my boy was not interested at all as there was always homework to do every time he came back fr the 2-hr course. Instead of helping him in his compo, my plan kind of backfired... now he hates mind map so much and refuses to organise his thoughts in bubbles... Personally, i attended mind map course during my course of work and found it helpful. perhaps, i introduced it to my 7-year old too early... This year, i wonder if i should send him for other course, like edward de bono... any comments? -

...Is the discovery science prog really interesting? Observed that the hours are really long. Like a full working day...
My son seemed to enjoy it a lot. Helped him with his science classes too (that's his favorite subject, according to him). I thought it was value for money. -

Hi Mamamal
Could be true that it may be too early for a 7 year old to understand the usefulness of mind map. The course I'm looking at is effective study skills for my nephew in lower secondary. Anyway I have already sign up for him for the 3 day course in early Dec, hope he'll find it useful and not waste my money
This year, i wonder if i should send him for other course, like edward de bono... any comments?
I've heard of Edward De Bono, my niece told me is good and should send my 6 year old there but I have logistics problem as we are working full time and we'll not be able to bring/fetch on weekdays and weekends are always too busy...
