Anglican High School

Think itโs good to have notes and materials designed by the school. Some texts that I happen to see in popular bkstore was very general. Looking forward to CCA selection too. Btw is your child a DD or DSโฆmy is a DSโฆ

Timetable for various CCAs can be found on the website (not sure if it's still available now though)
Compulsory CCA days is Fridays except for some, usually sports CCAs.
On the average, a student will have 2 CCA days though some like concert band and choir have it 3 times per week.
If I'm not wrong, next year is SYF year so CCA practices will be more 'hiong', more intense.
I got two daughters and a niece, all from Anglican. One is sec 4 this year, one this year in sec 3, niece is sec 2.
My older daughter was in Chinese Orchestra. It's usually okay unless if there is concerts or the like then practice will be very intense.
My younger daughter is in Girl Guides. CCA days are on Tuesdays and Fridays. It's generally okay as well until she became a senior (Sec 3).
My niece is in Girls' Brigade. I'm not very sure but sometimes they have 3 CCA days per week, sometimes 2.
All the UGs are very hiong but they have very good reputation amongst the schools. All are not for the cao mei zu (strawberry group, that is, children who are weak and keep complaining). My daughter gets very angry and annoyed when people compare or mix Guides up with Girls' Brigade.
Girl Guides is more focused on survival skills like building gadgets (clothesline, luggage rack, shoe rack) and outdoor cooking. In a way, it's more rounded than other UG since they do a variety of stuff.
Girls' Brigade have foot drills on Tuesday and Worship (?) on Friday. I'm not sure, I think it's like that. Girls in Girls' Brigade are very tight, as with all other UGs. But my feeling is that the girls in GB have better relationships with each other than other UGs. But then, that depends on your child's level. My daughter tells me that their seniors bond was very very strong and still is now, even after leaving Guides. So it really depends on the level and students.
It's much easier to get a position in UG as compared to other CCAs.
Performing arts have more opportunities to travel abroad and are more 'slack' than other CCAs. I heard Choir went to Vienne for competition and Chinese Orchestra went to Malaysia once. Not sure about other CCAs though.
Sports have intense CCA practices during holidays cause it's near their competition season.
Your child will stay back one day for AHS CCA showcase so I don't think you should worry.
And there will be Sec 1 orientation by the student councillors

Thks for sharing, will let DS decide what he wants and be happy in this new school. Only main concern for him is the emphasis on being good in his languages. Wonder if there is a criteria similar to that of River Valley where students must attain at least good B grades for English and Chinese language. Quite worried.

Me too was expecting some talk by principal such as what to wear on the 1st day and what to expect. I just went to register and left at about 9am as the Q to buy uniform was extremely long and same for books. Kind of wasted my half day leave. I decided to go back and buy the uniform on 26 Dec.Me too, was expecting to hear the principal talk, or at least other activities such as info on CCA. But nothing.... very disappointed.
Also, seems that more girls and boys.
The whole reporting made us feel whether we've made a right choice....

Hi Dancingraisins,
Thanks for such an informative post on CCA. AHS only has Chinese Orchestra (coz DD plays the violin)?

Does anyone have any lobang on transport?
The bus operator does not seem to be interested in North-east area but claimed that most of the students are from the East such as Pasir Ris.
Please PM if you can help.
Thanks! -

Hello, flag raising is at 0720 (I think) and classes officially starts at 0750. Sec 1s usually end at around 1 to 2, as does Sec 2s. Sec 3s will end earliest at 1420 and latest 1500 (excluding remedials). Sec 4s will end earliest 1500 (I think). I'm not quite sure but these are the approximate timings.
Of course, once you join a CCA, you will leave later on various days. -
