The switch at end of year 2 is only applicable to IP sch with an existing O lvl class?

Makes no sense for the second school to adopt the 1st school's 'dropout' and take over the responsibility.

If IP student leave at end of Y2 -
they are not seen as \"drop-out\", because Y3 / Y4 have not even started yet. They still have chance to do next 2 years of Y3 / Y4 \"O\" level, and they may do well in the \"O\" level, since structured step by step curriculum, regular Term Tests / exams are in place to help them study better, some students are more suitable for this type of learning style approach.
So, outside Secondary schools more willing to give IP students this 2nd chance, take them in to prepare for \"O\" level.
In fact, there are students who did well enough at \"O\" level : that some choose to come back to the same JC in Y5 / Y6 for \"A\" level (maybe because they are familiar with this JC & like it a lot), based on their \"O\" level results certificate, this time.

But if IP student leave at end of Y4 -
They are seen as \"drop-out\", if they leave the IP school, without completing the 6 years of IP program.
If they seek transfer from one JC to another & succeed, they deprive one JAE student of a seat, coming in at Y5 \"A\" level, when remaining seats for JAE students already so limited, constraint

switch at end of Y2 is also applicable at IP school (single track school) to another outside Secondary school, but student cannot be DSA. It is the DSA contract that bind them, cannot leave Single track IP school.

But For non DSA student in a single track IP school (those who enter by Meeting Cut off point or appeal cases), they can leave at end of Y2 to another outside Secondary school that is willing to take them in, to prepare for Y3 / Y4 \"O\" level.

Dual track IP students the best -
Easier for them to switch from IP to \"O\" level track, within the same school. Dual track IP schools provide a \"safety\" net.

I see, so referring to the earlier case, the girl could not transfer out at Y3 to a O level school despite failing every year because she went to the IP school via DSA...?

I also heard that it is possible for students who DSA into an IP school to DSA into another school later, maybe Y2 or Y3? I don't know how true that is, given that the DSA is supposed to bind the child for 4 years in that school..?

I understand from the MOE website that only 4 schools offer the IB program (no co-ed school)?

IB means that your child enter an IB Secondary school from Sec 1 (after Psle) to IB Diploma, for 6 years, don't do \"O\" level anymore.
At end of 6 years, your child end up with an IB Diploma

3 IB Secondary schools
- 4 years are single sex (from Y1 to Y4)
Y5 and Y6 : become co-ed

- MGS Sec (girls)
- ACSI Sec (boys)
- St Joseph Sec (boys)

SOTA offers IB too and they're co-ed. But only applicable if your daughter is interested in pursuing the arts.

If an IB diploma is your desired certificate, then aim for the IB IP. Those schools would have pre-IB syllabus in years 3-4 which would help prep the kids for IB in Years 5/6.

To add on, since you are looking at co-ed, I have come across a case where the boy studied Sec 1 to 4 in River Valley and transferred to ACSI to do IB at the start of year 5.

1. From this year onward, there is an unwritten MOE ruling if a DSA students cannot make it to its affiliated JC, eg. RI to RI(JC) due to poor academic results, that student cannot go to any other non-IP JCs to take A-level. Period. He/she must take IB exam instead or hope very hard the other JCs which have IP programme can accept him/her.

I recently heard of a real life case where the dd in an IP school (DSAed through sports) could not make it to its affiliated JC. She had been failing every year since sec 1 (and then pushed up, i.e., passed after re-exam, or something like that), and there was no O level class during her year for her to go to (I think the O level class started the year after her year). After sec 4, since cannot make it to the affiliated JC, tried to appeal to another non-IP JC. That JC principal accepted, but MOE stepped in and say no, the dd cannot go to any other JC to take A-level. I think the dd in the end went to poly...

Huh make no sense le, is MOE implying poly inferior to JC :scratchhead:

Besides, admission to poly requires O level results?
