      Actually, a lower mean aggregate for DSA applicants may not always be true. I was a DSA applicant who was shortlisted for the NYGH interview along with many of my other friends who applied for it through academics. We were all rejected when the results came out, except for one, but still managed to get into NYGH through the MOE central posting. I asked around in school, and most of the DSA applicants who got in had a higher PSLE mean aggregate than the COP. I’m not sure about those who got in through sports, but you must definitely meet a certain mean aggregate before they will take you. I’m not sure about DHS, RVHS or NJC, but I guess that it should work that way as all of them are IP schools. Anyway, getting in for DSA is getting more and more difficult nowadays, especially through academics.Wishing all of this years’ DSA applicants good luck!

        My sec one son is currently in RV. He cannot understand the notes given by his science teacher, seems too cheem. So I enrol him in Just education IP Science class. He thinks the materials are good. They also have some "SPA" training which seems important.

          What is SPA ?

            I dont know the exact details also. :? Should have taken a more keen attitude to my son's studies..... I went to SEAB website and found this:

            School-based Science Practical Assessment (SPA):
            Paper 3 (96 marks)
            The School-based Science Practical Assessment (SPA) will be conducted to assess appropriate aspects of objectives C1 to C6. SPA will take place over an appropriate period that the candidates are offering the subject. The assessment of science practical skills is grouped into 3 skill sets:
            * Skill set 1 – Implementing
            * Skill set 2 – Analysing
            * Skill set 3 – Planning
            Each candidate is to be assessed only twice for each of skill sets 1 and 2 and only once for skill set 3.

            Singapore students will not be offered A and O level practical exams. The practicals are all done in schools based on MOE SPA guidelines and its a large proportion of their overall marks. I guess thats why the tuition centre is conducting it on a regular basis.

                  :congrats: So his score is actually 256+3...which is 259. He can apply to ip schools. Go read booklet 2 for cutoff points and list yr choices from there.

                        My boy also get 259 (257 +2) & also deciding whether to try HCI. We went to the open-hse this afternoon and we're leaving the decision to him to choose HCI or VS. Anyway the posting goes by the t-score irregardless of whether choice 1-6. So, if yr boy is keen in HCI, no harm putting it as a 1st choice cos' you will not loose out in any way.
