Beijing Language School - Discussion

@jwxh - Apologise that i could not recall her surname. She is the teacher in charge of this branch. You may ask the information counter for her name.
my son only attended for a short period. If i remember correctly .. only 1 or 2 terms. I think the material is ok. the admin lady allows you to take a look on their teaching materials. The class is up to max. 10 or 12 pax but the class can start with min. 2-4 pax at a start.
I found that we can use the SAP chinese vocabulary handbook to teach kid on the area of 语文选择. but for creative writing, i think an experience teacher is better than me in guiding my son. I withdrawn him mainly due to he do not like to attend morning tuition and we have no other available time slot to make the changes, so i became his \"intensive tutor\".
To improve compo writing, u can let the kid read more story book.
@kitty_mum - you have provided more updated information on the class at Beijing. my son left the place more than half year ago.
if the cc has good tutor, then u may like to go ahead. did you hear any parents feedback on the tutors?
If we enrol our kid in a tution centre, we have to check with our kid whether the tutor's style of teaching make her understand the topic better?
my son and his classmates have tution at Blk 560 RC. The tutors like to provide top school test papers for the kids to practice.
my son found himself not suitable with the new english tutor's style but his classmates found her ok. So we teach him on our own pace and make him read more english book. Another girl found not suitable with the maths and science tutors but the boys found it okay.
This is very subjective view/ preference as different kids has different standard in each subject. some may suitable for smaller class while others like to have big class. my boy like the environment for big class for maths. the boys like to challenge each other in their regular top school paper test.
So \"one man's meat may be another posion\"!
Hope my 2 cents thoughts help you in deciding the selection. -
tks for yr input.
yr kid this year P4? does he hve any tuition at all since you can tutor him? -
Hi TulipisPink,
Thanks for the advice. -
@jwxh
Yes he is in P4 this year.
When he marks was not in satisfactory range in CA1, i started to guide him for his SA1 exam onwards. Thanks to my good friend who taught me the method in guiding him for this subject.
first Check which are the weak area. eg.辨字,词语选择/词语搭配,短文填空,完成句子, or 阅读理解. Then, Select assessments book that has more exercises on the weak area. A good practice will be going through his sch / other school exam papers with the kids and explain why certain answer could not be used/apply.
If he is in lower primary, you can buy the chinese vocabulary handbook from SAP.
Make sure he understand all the list of words listed in their textbooks. Ask him to make sentence, so to test whether he know how to use these vocabulary.
For comprehension and composition, parents are advise to read story book together with the kid. From the reading, the kid can pick up good phrases and vocabulary from the books. -

You are most welcome

Hi,
How old is your kid? I sent mine for P1 composition writing recently. Have attended 3 lessons. The teacher will go through a passage with the class and get them to copy the whole passage. Feedback from the teacher is that my son writing is very slow so he managed only one para in class. She asked us to get him to complete it at home. They give spelling in both chinese characters and HYPY 5 words every week. Think still early to tell whether good or not. -
Can anyone advise on this enrichment Ctr?

Hahaha, Smiley as u can see I posted since 2010 no one responded. Not sure if it was because no other parents put their kids to this centre or they have no comments. But I let my son attend after weeks of no response. I feel the topic covered in K1 was a bit too difficult for the kids as compared to Tien Hsia. But when my son went to K2, Beijing Language started drilling them hanyu pinyin n I think it helped my son till now he is in P1 n I feel his hanyu pinyin are quite good. But if u r looking into their creative writing class, I would not recommend cos my elder one attended the P3 writing class n I find the teacher not very precise in explaining the words to the kids. But it might just depends on the teacher. It is really difficult to find good Chinese enrichment class.

Hi dohdoh, try Xuelin Learning Hub. I was apprehensive initially due to long travelling distance required. However, now, NO regrets! They are really fanastic! See their thread.

Thanks, KS but it is really far away n we usually put our kids to weekdays enrichments cos schools these days r so hectic n if possible, we prefer to free their weekends for some sports. But will keep that in mind
