Beijing Language School - Discussion

DD started Beijing in Jul… last week during their open house (parents are invited to join in the class)… am surprise she knows all her HYPY sounds …as they are asked to go up and read it out one by one and sing songs etc… not bad lor… heee… hopefully she continue to soak in chinese speaking environment like this.

I finally sign up DS2 for the chinese at Beijing. He sat for the first tingxie class and he told me that if he doesn’t know, he can copy. The teacher will mark correct. However, if he doesn’t copy at all, he get an extra star.


Anyone else encounter this? I felt kinda upset knowing this. I rather that he gets it wrong and he can improve next time.

My girl attended Beijing @ Sengkang since the Dec holiday P1-preparatory class last year. For the 1st half of P1, she wasn't comfortable in conversing in Mandarin since we only speak English at home. I've also signed her up for the June hols program this year.


As of 3rd term, she has gained more confidence in speaking Mandarin. So I'm glad that she had some improvements. Also, her kindergarten friend, some P1 classmates and schoolmates are in the same class. So she has some friends to learn along together with her.

As for copying during tingxie, I have not heard about it. Will ask her tonight

It seems quite a number of positive feedback on BJ Sengkang.

That really help us a lot when enrolling our kids to the school.

I guess heyhoe, you should have a chat with the teacher to clarify on thismatter. It could be Some Mis communication . I spoke to my gal teacher first b4 I enrol my child into the course. That will also give you a better understanding of teacher and the program.

For K1@ Sk Beijing under Zhou laoshi, my girl is copying what teacher write too. my understanding is that for this age, they are being "exposed" to more chinese character, they have yet to reach the stage to write complex stroke character… thus, copying is ok. but if tingxie copy is not right i feel. i will ask her teacher to kaypoh a bit this week.Let u all know the teacher’s respond ya

My DS is in Punggol branch. I was quite shocked when i heard from my DS. I guess the practise differs from teacher to teacher.


Appreciate if anyone can recommend me a good P1 teacher from Beijing. I can consider Punggol/Sengkang branch.

So far, my girl is under Kong laoshi for saturday’s P1 class at 11:10am. The 9am class was full when we tried to register her for that slot. Her kindy classmate staying in Punggol is also in the same 11:10am class. I heard from her that some of her classmates changed to classes on sundays. Not sure the reason though.
