mummy so kiasu:
Son's tutor told me...if fail English at secondary school have to retain. Depends on the school or MOE regulation?
Does it apply to other schools too?phankao:
My sec 1 boy mentioned this - about failing English, should be retained. But his classmates who failed English were not. The whole class was promoted leh. He was wondering why. -
mummy so kiasu:
No idea - but it is a requirement in their school, so I'm not sure what the mitigating factors were.

Depends on the school or MOE regulation?[/quote]If a student is retained for failing English then it is likely a third to half the national cohort will be retained. Some may even fail English every year. So logistically, is this logical? Can our school infrastructure support such a thing? The answer is that such a thing is not and cannot be applied across the board.

Your school will be in the best position to tell you such thing and not tutors and the likes. And given the reasoning above, it is almost certainly not a MOE directive.
Schools will have the autonomy to promote pupils to the next level and the overall grades of a pupil will likely be the determinant factor for his/her progress. English alone cannot be the determinant in my opinion unless a school (elite schools?) is adamant about it. -
Will you get SMS, if you have DSA offers?

My neighbour got 185 for PSLE and managed to enter Anglo Chinese JC in the end… So don’t be depressed ! It’s of no use, what is done can’t be undone . That’s what my friend said to me xD

Essential:
The lowest score is 43. So is he or she consider \"it's the end\"!!!?
nowadays, does MOE allow repeat of PSLE as private candidate, or straightaway go to Northlight Sec ? -

What is important to look forward and work harder...as a parent I still feel a little pain but no point crying over it. -
Surprisingly the same applied for my classmates(I’m in the 2012 P6 cohort)
Most of my classmates did as they were expected, but still there are some who did not do well. In the best mainstream class, many had 260-270.
For me, I was expected to be in the 250-260+ range but my T-score is 270. But the reason is most likely that I did not estimate well.
My school has VERY strict marking schemes for school exams, so it is not surprising that most of us did better than in prelims. What seemed to be unreasonable is that those who did well(in prelims) did better, and that those who did all right did worse in PSLE. Apparently there are more pupils scoring 260+ and around 240.
