PSLE 2012 - Results Discussion

are you being overparanoid or kiasi? MOE official announcement is that they will stop publishing names of top scorers but it DID NOT prohibit schools and the public from doing so. Since when has it become \"undisclosable\" and MOE can take action against parent???I believe that most parents are so concerned on the results at PSLE, which is the first exam of the life of Singapore children. I only caution that any information pertaining to the results is now classified as undisclosable. Any attempt to disclose it without the permission from the school and MOE is deemed as invasion of privileged information.
Whatever so-called \"I heard\" from so and so will never been validated. If I am not wrong, I think that MOE will have the power to stop any parent from engaging the media to report on their children's high score.
Please do with a bit of wisdom, I do not know how MOE and the school will view it. If any names of the so-called top student, will it deemed as contradicting the current new policy. The MOE will reserve the rights to pursue the matters as they deem fit.
I caution myself not to be involved of sharing the information I know. This is because I do not know how MOE will view it. This is new policy and let us discuss it with the term, I heard, I was told by my son or daughter who happen to be friend that their classmate get how much and so on. Do not say \"so and so (with reference to actual name) of \"so and so\" school obtained 279, 285, 283. It might land you in trouble if MOE intend to pursue it, it might question the school, and slowly filter down to the actual person who release such information. -
Did some posts get deleted ,how come theres only 23 pages now.i thought got 30+?

MOE has no right? Is that why the name of the NYPS top scorer appeared on Straits Times today? Even the editors our national newspapers think so?
I don’t see how these top scores will help any parent make any sensible choices about schools. If we are sharing mean averages or percentages above 250, it would make a lot more sense. -

Yes, the \"+2\" advantage will be applicable to these schools. As such, (1) and (2) means you are about 6 points off, which is a little too far and harder to reach. (3) and (4) still possible to put as 1st and 2nd choice for a try.
Hi,sujatha:
Hi, my daughter scored 252 + 2 HMT. 2A* maths + eng. 2A science + tamil. She was a potential high scorer who didn't do upto the expectation and yet dreaming of IP programmes. Following are my choices for her. Pls advise if am being realistic and trying to secure a place for my daughter in a good school.
1. NJC IP cut-off 258
2. Cedar girls IP. Cut-off 258
3. TJC IP. Cut-off 255
4. MGS IP. Cut-off 255
5. SCGS IP Cut-off 250
6. Cedar girls express. Cutoff 249
Really need some expert advise and good guidance please. Thanks a lot!
Your daughter will not be able to have the \"+2\" advantage as she takes higher tamil and not higher chinese. From what i know, a child is only able to use her HMT points if he/she is applying for a SAP school ( Only caters to chinese pupils).
The rule of thumb is usually to go for: 1st and 2nd choice - a little above your T-score (2-3 points), 3rd and 4th choice - your T-score range, 5th and 6th choice - a little below your T-score (2-3 points). This will ensure you have a good coverage and get to a school of your choice. Note that the COP listed in the booklet is from last year cohort and it refers to the T-score of the last student who got into that school. It does not mean all students with that T-score who applied for that school last year got in, and this year's cohort performance may be different (better or worst can mean COP go up or down). You need to make the +/- allowance in your choices of sch.
Hope this explanation helps all parents in your sec sch selection. -

Hi, my daughter scored 251 + 1 HMT. In the letter given by MOE, it says that she is eligible for HMT even though she didn't meet MOE's requirements for HMT - A* for MT or Merit. It also says that she is eligible to apply for 3rd language and from what I know she is given all the 3rd languages. So even though she only got a Pass for HMT, MOE is allowing her to take HMT in sec school, am I right?
The other criteria is top 10 % of intake -
The information on highest score in each school helps nothing. The % and mean is more meaningful when evaluating a school. Also don’t mix GEP schools with normal schools. It sounds like to comapre oranges with apples.

I think MOE should at least publish out the number of pupils in sinGapoRe getting a type of score so that we know how competitive it is
-
Sigh. I do not know which school to choose as I do not know how many people with the same or higher scores is sighing up for that school

For TJC, MGS and SCGS, this is the 1st year they take in IP students at Sec 1, so there is no previous year reference for the COP. An estimate for COP is usually around Cedar IP COP +/-. Hence, your list of choices seems quite risky.
I think the first two is being unrealistic because there is a 4 points gap. Even if she appeals to the school, there is high chance of her appeal being rejected.sujatha:

How can a girl go to an All-boys' school?
You may want to try Catholic High. They will be having IP program next year for the first time. Thin your daughter's score should be good enough for the school.sujatha:
Hi everyone,
I don't know how relevant it is to ask this help here when you all have other major concerns. I apologize if this hurts anyone. I am genuinely interested in some help in choosing my daughter's secondary school. She scored 252 + 2 for HMT. She has been a school topper in previous years and a consistent high scorer. All the while we were having a high expectation like 260+ and dreaming about top schools with IP. I feel very helpless to choose her school. Does she have any chance to get into IP programme?. If not what other good choice of school I have?. I live in marine parade. Will appealing for recorrection help in anyway?.
