Some observations for this year PSLE results:

        1) NYPS alone, about 43 students score 270 and above this year. My observation is that there are too many of them this year as compared to 2011. (this is about the figure for the whole nation last year, I could be wrong and please feel free to correct me and clarify.)

        2) Same observation of having many who has scored 270's in other top primary schools too.

        3) It looks like many neighborhood schools are producing some top performers who have scored 270's now.

What does that tell us? Hmmm :scratchhead:

        Anyone can weigh in?

The list is going to be like:
+ It looks like Neighborhood schools are not bad after all.
+ Cut off point in top sec schools will go up? :yikes: n go on...
        +...
        +..

On top of more than 40 kids scoring above 270, Nanyang has also a very high percentage (50% ???) of kids who scored above 250 while the percentage going to Express course nationwide is only 63%. IN addition, some schools' highest scores are only 270 or below , I wonder if MOE can throw some light into this. Maybe other schools are teaching the wrong things or not teaching effectively despite having very hardworking teachers or other socioeconomic factors …and despite the fact of so many students going for tuition.

In addition, giving us info of percentage quality passes will give us a clearer picture of the subjects in the schools which have shown improvement and those which need to be improved. It is not uncommon to see quality passes hovering around 50% for some subjects in some schools.

I read from other threads,(?) one parent suggested the possible reason this year having many scorers >265-276 is the easy papers, which cannot differentiate the high ability students. I tend to agree with this view.
Is it true that there are many more high scorers than previous years? I tend to believe that it is more or less similar to previous years..... But the collection of top scores from different schools created the impression that there a lot more high scorers. Previous years schools have also been around 270+, just that nobody bother because the top scorer is already announced....

If you look at the T-score computation formular, you would realize it is the opposite. When the papers are more difficult, the difference between the average mark and the very high marks are bigger, that will result in a higher top T-score (and more people having very high T-scores) compared to other years with easier papers. Whether the papers are hard or easy, the mean T-score should be the same, around 200.

Really ah..die..I never expose those Olympiad Maths to my kids and neither does the school. I trust the schools to teach whatever needed to score in exam incl PSLE. If that is the case, does that mean I shd start researching on such courses?

My kid did the psle too and it is not true that there are Olympiad maths questions. The last question which is usually the most difficult question ( I could be wrong) is on area.
Please do not scare yourself or your child. I am a strong advocate that if a child is not strong in Maths, please do not \"torture\" them with Olym Maths questions. Let them learn at their own pace.

Thanks for assuring..I had seen those Olympiad maths questions in those Olympiad books found in Popular..I dun think my gal will ever do those..she has her plate full with heuristic kinda questions. I did advise her that if she came across those \"non-routine\" maths questions and if she does not know how to do..skip them and focus on other routine questions..dun waste time getting those 10 marks at the expense of the remaining 80+ marks..

However, kids panic once they see the non-routine questions
