Overcrowded MRT at peak hours
-
fussyMummy:
That's because our population has increased ... from 4 mil to now about 5 mil. Garmen targets 6 mil in future :!: If this happen, maybe our peak hours MRT ride will be like those in Japan!I am wondering why everywhere also so crowded :? regardless weekdays or weekend....
Market, School, Clinic, Hospitals, MRT , BUS............ -

Don't misunderstand me.......3Boys:
So folks, up to us to model the behaviours and pass the right values on to the next generation then......
Now that I am not preggy.. I try to give seats to other elderly, with kids or preggers...but when I am not feeling well I dont give
merely re-iterating some cliches; e.g. \"what goes around comes around\", \"pay it forwards\", blah blah. At some point those adults that are not giving up their seats were kids too, and clearly something had been lost in the transmission of values. And we have the power to change that for the future through our kids.... -

perhaps you should ask the 晚报 lady how many months are you...kekekeke. nothing like shaming these people.when I was pregnant (quite obvious) and standing, this girl that I didn't know at all standing next to me was such a 好公民 or she buay song that ppl were pretending not to see me that she asked the lady in the 'reserved' seat (who to be fair was absorbed in her 晚报 and didn't see me \"can you give your seat to this lady?\". I was so pleasantly surprised! then the foreign worker (think it was bangla) sitting next to her whom I was glaring at got so paiseh he got up first.
I do feel a bit odd at times when there are pp who look a bit old, but the hair colour is darker than mine (I got white hair liao). So how to gauge when to give. hmmm -
When I was preggy 3 years ago, I took the MRT to work until about 5-6 months. By the 5-6 months, tummy became obvious hence anybody should be able to tell I am pregnant!.
Along came an MRT at the Yio Chu Kang stop which was thankfully empty. The train stopped right in front of me where I can see inside got 3 empty seats. I was quite thankful to be able to get a seat. Who knows when the door opened (and I was right in front of door) from behind me one uncle ran in and overtook me and sat on one seat! I quickly go to the next one but unfortunately another person already walked over quickly and sat down. How about the 3rd seat? By the time I turn around, also gone! :!:
So imagine I was so amazed and ended up I was the ONLY PERSON standing up in the whole 3 carriages and I was also the only PREGNANT person! Could not believe it and stand in the middle of the carriage and right in front of me, the whole row was occupied by MEN (various races & ages!). Nobody offered me a seat until 2 stops later at almost reach Ang Mo Kio, one guy seating near the door got up and got off the AMK stop. I quickly walked over and sat down for the rest of the journey until Raffles Place.
Couldn't believe it! I actually expect men more so that women to give up seats to pregnant ladies but usually women will do it.
So after that incident, for the last 3 months of my preggy state, hubby droved me daily to work. Even taxi-drivers refused to drive me from north to Raffles Place using CTE during the morning peak hours so I complained often to my hubby that taking cab is also a problem! I am grateful up till this day that he braved the crazy CTE traffic every morning during peak hours to spare me further agony! -
Guys are different. When we board the bus\\mrt alone, we seldom look for seats as we know we will end up standing eventually anyway. So as long as can get onboard is good enough.
When DS was very young, I used to bring him on MRT joy ride in the evening. 9 out 10 times, someone would gave up his\\her seat to him, but DS would alway \"Daddy sits, Daddy sits\" -

DesertWind, same thing happened to me and thats why I took the bus which used to begin around my home so that I could get the seat
Hi LKVM,
So terrible hor? Feel so lousy I think it is more psychological and it is harder when there is an expectation that people will be considerate to you and give up their seat. But when nobody does it, the feeling is really lousy akin to self-pity :P. On normal days (when not pregnant) won't care two hoots about standing around because no big deal. But when you expect people to be kind to you but they don't, feel kinda sad!

I was pregnant for a total of 27 months, and i think i was offered seats (on buses and mrts) only about 20 times at most (for the entire 27 mths duration hor!!)!
Even had a fellow female commuter rushing with me for a seat when the person i was standing in front of vacated her seat to get down the train. Another irritating incident that i will always rem is of a fellow ex-colleague (tat guy knows me!!!) who just pretended that he did not know me and didnt offer me the seat although i was standing infront of him (in the bus), but when i moved a little into the bus (to accomodate more passengers from coming up the bus), he actually vacated and got off cos it was his stop!! :x
But then again - i got over those incidents – nah – i can survive the stand - if cannot - then just wait for a emptier bus lor? The world does not owe me anything!!!
So, definitely – the public transport are overcrowded!!! -
