NJC or HCI ?

dunnoleh:
a most astute observationthis poll is only applicable for boys, and there are very few boys going to NJC in recent years.
Its becoming like a girls' school if not for the JC intakes. -

I went to HCI Open House last year. Doubt it is \"newer\" than NJC. Some rooms had a dusty smell and I got very bad skin rash after I went home.
Yes, they are going through renovations now. I believe they will upgrade most of the campus as the campus is a bit old.ApronMama:
phankao,
Do you know whether NJC is undergoing any reno, reconstruction,...etc for their campus. I heard they only build boarding,.. Will they be doing like RV to have a totally brand new campus in future?
Academic success at HCI is proven time and again. No question abt it.
BUT I could not forget this incident: A HCI student punching a bus driver when his girlfriend used an expired student pass and the bus driver \"demanded\" her to surrender the pass.
And the most recent bad press: a MOE scholarship holder formerly from Chinese High, then HCI. One bad apple among the huge cohort, yes. Maybe I too narrow minded.
I still prefer NJC. -

Recently I was on a bus, sitting close to 2 HCI senior high boys. Overhead their conversation which is peppered with EL and CL (very S’porean style of speaking) on selecting Ivy League overseas uni. One of the boys told the other one he was born in Finland and his parents finally chose S’pore to raise him. Apparently his parents had been to many countries and found S’pore the most suitable one.
So far so good right?
Then both said they would be going home once the uni schooling is finished. Where do u think their HOME is?
Not S’pore. CHINA.
What do you think of this conversation?
My shallow view: sch not doing enough to encourage S’pore national identity. -
>Jennifer: Maybe their parents dont want them to continue in Singapore. Or they have relatives in China or something. It’s their final say whether or not they choose to stay in Singapore.

Talking about HCI's Open House reminded my visit together with my male cousin to HCI's Open House in 2008 when I was in P6. If I can still remember, their school group tour had 3 different themes - Academic, CCA and Sports (pls correct me If I am wrong). We had to choose one of them which was the academic group tour and we ended in their AEP display room. We didn't join the other two themes because of time constraint.
How about their current group school tour at their Open House? Still divided into three different themes? Why can't they combine all three into one for the seek of convenience? -
Vanilla Cake:
We went to the open house this year and I did not notice of such grouping. It was all under one roof and very systematic. There were guided tour every few minutes to bring P6 students and parents around the campus. They also set up a desktop to guide parents how to apply for DSA and answer any questions pertaining to dsa. My ds went round visiting the classrooms which display and explain about CCA. He even joined in and play some of the gaming they setup and had lots of fun. He was attracted to the school. We did not manage to get a chance to visit NJC as it was only by two booking occasion. When he went there for dsa interview, he saw majority are girls then he confirmed where he wants to proceed to. :lol:Jennifer:

Black box theatre is usually a large square room with black walls and a flat floor. It is used for drama practices. In Sec 1, NJCians attend drama lessons and will perform (as a class) when they reach Sec 2. This will help to facilitate the drama program.[/quote]
Yes, yes! Today start on Accounting of money, so far drama lessons are fun

You are in JH1 now? -
Was deciding between NJC and HCI as one of the choices for my DS’s DSA.
Previously when we were briefed by people from the GE branch at his primary school, we were told that NJC was not on the list of schools with MOE recognised GE programme and hence students there were not eligible for the GE grant. HCI is on the list so the GE students there are eligible for the grant.
What they never told us was the fees at NJ was much much lower lol.
Think we should apply for the NJ DSA (only applying for one in the Bukit Timah area) as it is probably easier to get in compared to HCI.
