wow, mincy, your kid dont get bored with 300 items in 5 min? I only flash 5 dot cards, 3 maths equations, 5 english words and 5 chinese words x 3 times daily! Coz i think they get bored so easily!
I think its the content of the cards and the speed of flashing. for dot cards and cards with just words, I will be lucky if he don't walk away in 10 cards. But most of schichida cards are picture cards in a variety of themes. some times, its one side picture and one side words. so I \"hide\" the pure dot cards and chinese word cards among those he likes. For the cards with words and pictures, I vary the sequence, my tone and what I say when I flash them. e.g. there a some cards with the theme \"sequence\" where you are suppose to say \"seed, plant, flowers fruits\" when you flash the pictures. So, instead of that I say, a seed grow into a plant, flowers grow from the plant and bear fruits. Or I flip them to show the words or I say it in chinese. For shichida, you are suppose to flash the cards for no longer than 1 sec. The theory is that the child's right brain absorb things very fast so they got bored easily. Other than the 1 sec method, there is not much other rule for schichida flash cards (other than for the dot cards)mincy:
wa...i am never really into flash cards....is it that powerful?
It is a frequently used method for learning lah. Even some learning soft ware for adults used that. I guess now kids start young. The theory is that the flash cards help them focus and once you hook them to it... you can teach them lots of stuff with it.
I personally like the fast method cause you can cover many things in a short period. I cannot flash as fast as 0.4 sec but at 1 second per card you can cover 300 items in 5 minutes.
of course, I don't manage to flash 300 all the time (in Shichida, they say you can flash up to 1000). there are some times when I don't flash at all cause my boy is simply not in the mood or too engross with his toys or books or want to do some of the other games before he wants to sleep. Sometimes, he can't get enough of flash cards and tell me he want some more even after I exhausted all my cards but sometimes he tells me he don't want flash cards. So, I just go with the flow. After all, reading or playing word games or playing with him or even watching DVD (we watch baby signing times & learn the signs together) is also part of bonding & learning. -

GD also emphasis on speed and frequency of new materials..I am doing my own cards now by putting photos or pictures to the words that i already flashed to her to be shown and explained to her by my maid during the day while i am at work.. this also reminds her of mummy and daddy while we are at work..Maybe i will try your style...story telling..
Hey chief, maybe set up another page to allow users to upload or share methods from the enrichment centres.
Mincy, are you at shichida still? you are able to buy the toys? I just bought a box of matching cards for memory and matching skills for my 8 mth old but it says for ages 2 upwards from growing fun..my 8mths olds takes the cards and put into her mouth!!! hahaha..(teething period la)..

hey people,
As i was saying that i am doing my own flashcards now to help revise my baby on top of my Glenn doman reading program, I was searching high and low for good pictures and i found this free download..
http://www.brillbaby.com/download/flashcards.php
Great stuff.. best of all its free..
They featured their baby , felicity reading at 12mths..
Good luck! and erm, lets all not give up on any programs we start because its not fair for our babies! -
Woohoo! Free flashcards! Great find quixation!
clickety click click… wrrrhh… print print.
But wouldn’t it be more costly if we download, print, and laminate - needs lamination, won’t it? Otherwise I can see them literally travelling through our kids’ digestive systems. -
ChiefKiasu:
chief, can get those A4 paper that is 288 GSM from popular and print on them.. Its thicker like those flashcards. but realised this one needs to fold and glue together.. I am trying to amend it so I can just print on reverse...let you guys know once i find the night to finish it! FTWM la..Woohoo! Free flashcards! Great find quixation!

thanks for the links!
One way is to buy thick cards (250 gsm and above), print on normal paper and cut and paste on it. Of course, it’s less time consuming if you can just print straight on cards. -
Hi quixation,
I am still in shichida so I can buy the toys…but shichida got quite a few memory games… and they don’t have brochures on it … only can browse at their store. Do you have any one in mind? -
Dear all
I am a new user and try to find out any good & effective way to train the kids right brain?
