      HappyAvon,

Just to update, our guess on which is the male one is probably right.
Cos it's rather aggressive, even towards my hubs who wanted to bring it out of the cage to play. & it tried to bite the kiddos who wanted to play with it too.

And during cage cleaning last week, we had no choice but to put them together for a while, this naughty one went chasing and biting the other two! End up we took him out and let it roam around the living room while cleaning its cage.

      Their appetite is FEROCIOUS!
I've not managed to get dried mealworm or fresh live ones yet.
Will try to get them this week when I'm not so busy.
Giving them bits of fresh fruits and vege daily plus the normal dried hamster food with sunflower seeds.

The hamsters are greatly loved (by all my students).
Endless fun for all (students have been requesting that their parents send them over early or pick them up late so they can play with the hammies).

And I realised, spending a little bit more to buy better bedding helps eliminate the smell totally!
So a male is more aggressive? Does it bite those who handle it?

Hi mrswongtuition, haha, yah they are really good eater...I actually bought the dried meal worms n bedding from pet lovers centre..their beddings are good n helps to eliminate any odour....the brand is called healthy pet ultra which has odor control n absorbs 3 times it's weight...very good compared to other brand I had tried previously...can last very long n u dun need to change the beddings so often....from my experience, dun put too little, make sure the whole cage are covered with the beddings....at least the urine will get absorbed by the beddings...

The male one really so naughty huh? When I was keeping them, they are still behaving well..probably growing up already....even the female one which I had kept is also growing fast....

Nice to hear so many of yr students are enjoying them.... šŸ˜„

Thanks a lot to those who have shared and replied.

It really depends on luck; a newly bought thing also can spoilt. We have bought fish and died the next day.
Basically, we are hoping to see anybody giving up their hamster and we take over from there.
Dd will be paying and thus trying to look for the lowest cost available.
          Thanking you in advance.
Hi starlight, u can visit pets channel forum...just on oct 11, I got email alert that one member's hamster had given birth to 6 bb on 8 oct n looking for interested parties to adopt....Not sure whether still available...maybe u can register as member n will be posted if there are any hamsters available for adoption...

I went to Pet's Station at CompassPoint. Alamak, their variety is sad!

I bought some toys and bedding online šŸ™‚

Should be heading out to Orchard later. Will try the pet shops there šŸ™‚

Ya, better still if the bedding has sodium bicarbonate which helps to absorb odour and stay drier. Recently i tried this type of bedding and i need to change the hamster bedding once every 2 weeks.

              carebear:

              Can understand how he felt.
I cried buckets when my first hamster died 3 years ago.
She was only 7 months old.
So i decided to have lots of hamsters to comfort myself.
              Having pets is therapeutic.
Btw, my guinea pig has just given birth to 2 pups which are sooooo adorable.
The mommy and daddy did not have kids for 1 year before i adopted them. Just when i was about to adopt them, the female must have become pregnant cos i neutered the male almost immediately after i adopted them.

Yes, love pets! Currently I am a Zoo to 16 hamsters and one dog! I prefer to the Syrians to the Winter Whites, what about you?

Aiyo, guinea pigs! Love them, love their nice coats. They are so adorable, but have never tried to keep them. The babies must be very cute. How big were when they were born?

Same like me 2 years ago with 16 hamsters!
Now 2 left, very very old but still active.
              Mine were all dwarf hamsters.
Have not reared syrian hamsters but they look cuter as they are bigger.
              However they are more aggressive?
Guinea pigs are so different from hamsters.
They are so meek, they will run away when i try to pick them up.
However when picked up, they will sit quietly on my lap.
The little guinea pigs were the size of a palm when they were born. After 10 days, the have grown 1.5 times! When they were born, unlike hamsters, they already have a thick coat of fur and eyes wide open, and able to run around.
Btw, guinea pigs are harder to take care of.
I need to clear their cages daily or it will smell.

Carebear, that's the one I bought recently.

It's in pellet form. Made from compacted wood shavings and sodium bicarbonate. TOTALLY NO SMELL.

Previously we used the soft fluffy type, I could smell the urine in 3 days. This time, already a week since we tried the new bedding, no smell yet, not even when I put my nose at the cage šŸ˜„

Now I mix the pellet (at the bottom) and the fluff (on top). Seems like the hammies like it. And I like it too (no smell) šŸ˜„

                  Hi,
                  Am a newbie on hammies.
For bedding, isn't use the saw-dust meant for hamsters?

Now there's many many types of bedding. Not just the normal sawdust (wood shavings) that we used in the past.
There's recycled paper (the fluffy ones I'm using now), normal wood shavings, citrus wood shavings, organic wood shavings, absorbent pellets, etc etc. Price varies greatly also.

                      Hi all,
I have just adopted a hamster. Thanks very much to a mum here who made all her way to my place to bring the hamster and lots of related stuff. And all her stuff are in excellent conditions.

I know we have to change the water daily. What about the dried food? Also, does it eat a lot?

                      Thanks a lot! :celebrate:

I think it depends on whether the hamster has a companion. I noticed that their appetites are pretty good when I had a pair of hamsters... had to top up the food every 2 days. Ever since one died, I noticed the remaining one's appetite has dropped drastically... I top up only once every 5 days.
