Order from Dangdang
-
empressplace,
Please note that agents may not be reliable. I wrote about using peeka but I also advise everyone to do your own research and use them at your own risk. Also note that if you buy from taobao using peeka, you are at risk of paying for pirated books. I am still going to order from dangdang using peeka.
Ordering online always has its risk, you must know how to protect yourself. I advise others to borrow from the library if you are don’t want to take any risks.

Concur with Tamarind's experience. I still get that error msg but am not bothered by it. When I lianas with DD, it usually the cs or even shendan email address, the gongdan email address is something new to me.charliewindson,
I get the exact payment rejected error every time i used my Amex card. After i emailed dangdang and confirmed that my payment went through, i was not bothered by that error anymore. I worked for many years as a software engineer before and I understand that software problems like this cost money and time to fix.
I asked earlier whether you have emailed dangdang directly to request for a refund, have you actually done so before? I am interested to know whether you have proof that you asked but they refused to refund you. You can actually dispute your transaction with your credit card bank and that will cause dangdang more damage than posting here.
If you have read through every page of this thread, you should know that other people have also reported problems with dangdang and those posts were not removed.
One experience I had was when I got DD to send to a hotel. The delivery guys failed to do that, payment was made via credit card. DD would only refind me when they see the books. It took time for the delivery guys to send the books back to DD. But once that happened, DD refunded the money to my credit card without delay.
The largest transaction I had with DD was more than 1k RMB, also no issues. Since then the amounts are smaller, and that's becos I have got a lot of books already.
Empress place, if you are worried about reliability, you can actually get Chinese books from mahayuyi at Bras Basah complex. Prices are much higher than DD (even with shipping factored in) but you get to browse through first. Actually, I rather trust DD than spree organisers - at least one is a listed co whilst the organizers are unknown to me. But each should only use the method one is comfy with. -
hquek,
Wow 1K RMB is a huge order. How many books did you order ?
charliewindson,
I just read through all the posts in the links you provided :

All the posts talked about the difficulty of ordering using credit card, which is well documented in this thread (in kiasuparents forum). I don't see anyone claimed that their payment went through multiple times but dangdang refused to refund. Can you please confirm that you did not receive your refund ? Did you check against your credit card bill and actually have to pay for books that you never received ? As I wrote earlier, you should have called the credit card bank to dispute the transaction. I have spoken to the Amex customer officer before, I told them that I have not received the goods after a long period of time and Amex said they will investigate when I send in the dispute form. I did not do so because I eventually received my books. When we dispute the transaction, the bank will stop payment to dangdang and they must provide proof that you have signed and received the goods. Otherwise if dangdang is found to be cheating, banks will not do business with them.
I am not trying to discredit you, but this is a very serious allegation and I really like to know more. -
Hi tamarind, yes it was a lot. That was during the early days when I first knew about DD. Have expanded my collection substantially since then. Keep telling myself tis enough. But then I have to stumble on new items.
Have started to pick up Chinese books also. BC (before children), I would never have read Chinese books. Times are a changing. -

I have been reading Chinese novels for many years, mostly by a few authors sold in local bookshops and I thought I have exhausted all the good choices. Thanks to dangdang, I discovered a whole new world of excellent Chinese books
that are not sold in local bookshops. Even though many good books can be found at the National Library and Maha Yuyi bookshop, I would not have found them if not for the thousands of customer reviews in dangdang which have been so helpful in helping me sift out the excellent books from the mediocre ones.
