Angry bird 99:
Yes I appealed.But unsuccessful.Bbee:
Hi Gd mrng to everybody.Anyone got SJI through an appeal?
No, unsuccessful
Did you appeal too? Did they contact you? I called up the school and they told me since I did not hear from them by 28 Dec, it means unsuccessful.
I also did not hear from them. How much your DS got in psle? My DS got 240. I put SJI is as a first choice and also appealed. But no use.what about you?
Sorry to hear that....my nephew got 234 but from St Michaels. He appealed and got in. -
carebear:
Nope....not like that.
You mean your DS knew the COP of the band-1 school, so he decided to choose the band-2 school, after he got his PSLE results?firefly38:
In 2009 after my DS PSLE he chose a band 2 school when he could have entered a band 1 all boys school. His logic was that he did not want to be at the bottom of the cohort in that school(his T-score was the COP for that band 1 school for that year) .
He made it to the one and only triple science class for S3 in his present school .
If he had gone to the band 1 school, things may have been different.
The COP for the band 1 school was hovering around his Tscore.
So if he applied he had a high chance of getting in.
But he decided against it.
After that then we learnt that the COP for that year in that school was his T score.
My daughter also had the same thinking. She had 258 but opt for RV.
Now she is in the best class in RV year 4.
If she had gone to a higher tier IP school, she may not get the attention or get to do the things she want as she would be too busy keeping pace with the other kids. -
Hi Summer70
Your nephew is lucky then. or maybe appealed with CCA or perhaps they considered affiliation. Initially I thought missed by one point may still stand a chance, but somehow things don't happen that way. Just have to accept it and move on. Appreciate your sharing

Verysuperkiasu:
May I know if it's just one particular teacher or most or all of the teachers????
Hi verysuperkiasu, I have no idea but I believe it's definitely not applicable to all the teachers. But these days, schools have high expectations from their teachers and this result-orientated environment could rob the teachers and pupils of their moral values.zhenx:
Went to RI today, they rejected all DSA appeals due to MOE. Sigh ! Cannot go to RI lo :gloomy:
Do not sulk over your 'misfortune'. This could be a blessing in disguise. My nephew, an ex-rafflesian, who managed a score of 267 some years ago had the following comments about RI: We were like outcasts in the eyes of the teachers. Competition in the school was so stiff. The teachers' pets were the Chinese scholars, some GEPers and the superbrainies. It's very frustrating that every effort you put into the projects were graded as sub-standard compared to those fellow classmates. The worst was we were accused of being lazy. At a tender age of 13-16, some of us soon lost our confidence and self-esteem as we used to be the precious top-scorers in our primary schools. Well, such is the harsh reality of our local educational system, agree?
So the next time you see a rafflesian, he could be desperately struggling within. So do not envy. Look ahead and enjoy the journey in your :heresmyfish: new secondary school.
For eg., in my DD's former primary sch (best class), her form teacher was very protective of the top students and refused to share their well-written compositions with other classes. Somehow, they were released and the pupils involved wrote a complaint letter to the principal. The matter was settled when the principal intervened and inculcated the value of sharing. Those top pupils were selfish and their actions were supported by their teacher). You must have already witnessed many cases of such practices among some primary schools. By the way, those top pupils have since joined the Raffles families and I hope they will emerge patriotic citizens to help our society and not a bunch of selfish adults that will only create a wider social gap in future. -
