My son will be doing PSLE next year and I agree that prepapration has to start early. Esp to revise the Pr.3 & 4 science.

So I started science tuition with this ex teacher to cover Pr 3 & Pr. 4. Whole of Novemeber we covered Pr 3 and now Pr 4 for December bec I think he must get the basic concepts right.

As for maths he is also doing sums everyday so that he is not out of touch.

All the best to all parents who have kids doing PSLE in 2011...
Pace your revision carefully. Don't burn out before PSLE.

In my opinion, revising 1 subject per day should be the right pace. Since there are 5 weekdays, he can revise 4 subjects spending only 4 days, with the remaining 1 day to focus on his weaker/weakest subject(s).

Tuitions can be on Saturdays, but not too many, so as to let your child take a breather. Sunday, perhaps you can have a family day, relax, chill out, and the next day it's back to work.

Remember, go for 'quality' instead of 'quantity' during daily work.

For English, vocabulary it's via accumulation of common/useful words. (When in P6, there's not much purpose of knowing words such as 'aeonian' or 'scoria')

When learning words, learn them with phrasal verbs and nouns that usually follow. Such as attributed his success

For Maths, exposure to questions is good. After acquiring a concept, proceed on to the next concept and not keep doing the same type of questions. Occasionally, it's good to attempt non-routine questions. Don't rely too much on calculators even if calculators can be used in that particular section unless you often get the wrong answer when calculating manually. Don't use the calculator for calculating simple sums such as 52+78.

After all, the PSLE Maths Paper 1 does not allow the usage of calculators.

For MT, I don't know which language you're/your child is studying.

For Science, there's not much memorisation to be done;get the misconceptions right, do more PSLE structured questions. It is important for science keywords to be spelt correctly as marks may be deducted if the word happens to be a keyword.

thanks for the valuable tips Yongjiangrong,

I take your point about heading for a burnout. But i am afraid of my son losing the momentum if he does not study enough for the december holidays. And yes there has always been a no work policy on Sundays.

have you any pointers to share for English comprehension?

                Hi Happiest,

If your boy has been doing well for pri five, should not be a worry that he will be loosing the momentum.

                Cheers

                  Hi Leanne and Happiest

I think most important thing is to make sure they have times to enjoy and relax. This period is just for a warm up and charging battery.

                    hi Brenda10 and Leane,

He scored low 70s for his Pr 5. so i thought 2-3 hours a day during the holidays would be helpful. With his he would be better equipped to face the challenges next year.

thanks to both of you for sharing.

I only worry that the kids (esp boys), would burn out with studying throughout the year.
