Just to add, my daughter takes HMT and we were briefed earlier by principal that the bonus pts for HMT grade is applicable to SAP school application only if your child meets the cut off point for that school. Say if COP for SAP school X is 260 and your child's score is 260 and scored a distination, then his/her agg score is 263. If your child's score is 259, then the 3 bonus points cant be used and his/her score remains at 259. Hope this is helpful as many parents are not aware of this criteria. Cheers !

Somehow doesn't make sense right ?
You take HCL for the bonus points to get into SAP schools.
If your t score is 259 and the COP is 260, precisely that's when the bonus points come in handy right ?
if the bonus points only count if you meet the COP, then what's the use of it ?

Read somewhere that the bonus points only work if the student is within top 30% of the cohort or has a minimum t score of ?250.
      I think this make sense.

Bonus points can only be used for those within top 30% and applying to SAP schools. Prior to 1999, bonus points were only applicable to those who were in the top 10%. In 1999, the bonus points scheme was extended to those in the 11-30%. There is no stipulation of having a minimum T-score of 250.

If I am not mistaken, it is a common assumption that the top 10% T-score is around 250.

the bonus points are meant to add to the t-score to help meet the cut off point of the target SAP school.

It seemed that it was to give the child with HMT an \"advantage\" when applying for SAP school. if COP is 260 and child A with 260 pass for HMT (which then equates agg score to 261) vs child B with 260 w/o HMT, and if both choose the same SAP school with only 1 vacancy left , then Child A will have priority over Child B. This was how it was explained to us during briefing by principal.[/quote]this is also what i thought it should be.
bonus pts comes in handy when stud A versus stud B with same score. then the want wif bonus pts win?

you should look at it from two students with DIFFERENT t-score, and the bonus points help him/her to equalise with the other without bonus but "higher" score. The bonus make up for it. ONLY applicable for entering SAP school

I think all parents here at KSP are trying to be helpful as much as we can. Thanks v m for info but I dont know why DD's school principal explained it the way she did, she even made it a point to highlight that we must meet the COP 1st...strange....

As someone pointed out before, the T score is calculated up to many decimal places.
So unlikely 2 students will have exactly same T score that need bonus points to separate them.
It's more like a bonus for students to get into SAP school.

On the other hand, what's the advantage of taking other HMT subjects since the bonus points can't be used for SAP school ?

Good to hear that today science paper is relatively easy. Hope my DS will not make careless mistake. At least the 4 subjects all over. Still has final HMT to go.
