2011 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

Leanne:
Hi Leanne,Hi Tinkerbelle,
Yes, long time no talk since the last hokkaido trip.
Talking about teachers, ds four teachers are quite close and used the same strategy for the whole class. Not sure its good or bad, all flashed marks on worksheet and test for the whole class to see...to encourage competiveness?
Science teacher is very lay back.Nothing happening , not structured in teaching. As such , we have to be on our own.
What?? Flash marks for the whole class to see! I guess it's good for people who excel academically but can be demoralising for those who are not doing so well. However, maybe all the kids will want to know their peers' marks as a benchmark for comparison....heehee.
DD has 1 teacher for 3 subjects - Eng, Maths, Sci and 1 teacher for MT. Dunno if it's good as DD mentioned that the teacher tends to focus more on maths, and the least on science. I'm also concern about how little she's touching on science. Guess, I'll need to revise with her more on sci. -

WOW!! Your DD had supp lessons before the movies as well! She's really very efficient and disciplined....can complete all her HW in 2 hr plus... :salute: :salute: :salute:Tinkerbelle:
Hi Brenda,
:!: That's lots of homework for a weekday hor? Wow...your DD can really work fast; especially since she went to the movies with you. :salute: Doubt my DD can cope with that much HW.
Thanks for the feedback on the movie. Sounds interesting.... will bring DDs to watch. Think DD1 will like it cos she likes reading her Social Studies text book...
Hi Tinkerbelle
In fact I had checked with dd after the supplementary class before we go ahead with the show. However, we wanted to give ourselves a ‘stress test” so we went for some fast food and finish the EL P2 before the show started at 5.20pm. The show ended at about 7 plus and by the time we finish the dinner and a bath, it was almost 8 plus then she took about 2 hours plus to complete the rest of the work.
I think you dd will also enjoy the show since she likes the social study. -
Hi Tinkerbelle,
Even ds has different teachers for different subjects, her science teacher also take her own sweet time to teach science, so this subject we also take care ourselve.
Apparently, ds has a very good math teacher which am relief cos this is not ds forte.
For chinese, english, we also on our own.
CheersTinkerbelle:

Your DD is indeed lucky to have a good maths teacher, in view of this year's highly likely tough maths paper. DD's maths teacher is taking P6 maths class for the 1st time so I'm a bit nervous about it... :nailbite: So tempted so send her for maths enrichment. -
Tinkerbelle,
Not to worry as your dd is already good in math. For ds, math is never his forte, has to work very hard, so process skill all has to kick in inorder to handle this year math, not just route learning.
I know some centre, just drill and drill the std question, without letting the child to explore out of the box.In psle, the challenging question will be a new set of question, so if the child is trained to process, they will be able to see and do it.
Just one cent of my thought.

Thanks for you feedback regarding enrichment centres. DD is starting to find maths tough. Questions are getting more challenging. Definitely need to work on her maths. Guess her CA1 results will be the deciding factor. -

Hi Tinkerbelle
I notice dd school has started the running revision by giving worksheet on topics like Whole Number etc and the questions are designed as per Section B. Heard from her that they will be sitting again for a test to determine type of workshop/enrichment they will be allocated accordingly.
Yes. You're right the CA1 become the important factor to assess the gaps since most of the topics had learnt during the P5. -

Hi
DS also has 1 form teacher for 3 subjects. The teacher also teaches the least on science. Can anyone advise how best to revise for CA1 on science (think also cover topics from P3) ? -

Mine too! I think dd's form teacher spent the most time on math, followed by english and then science.
