Doing well in Section B is quite an achivement. :celebrate:
Science is not DD's forte so I hope that there's enough time for her to process all the new knowledge later in the year. DD usually loses marks in MCQ and does better in Section B. :scratchhead: Heard from friends that their kids are the opposite....can get full marks for MCQ and loses marks in open-ended questions. What about your kids? Do they fare better in MCQ or Open-ended questions?
Most kids mess up their score due to Section B ( as told by DS's FT), and same is the case of DS. Can get close to full marks in science MCQ but really messes up Section B. I'm still not sure how to coach him in component. Sometimes his answers are correct but the key words are missing. Sometimes he loses marks for incomplete key words. For e.g. He would write 'This forms a circuit' instead of 'This forms a closed circuit' :x Some answers are long winded, where as the expectation is to write succinct answers, peppered with the right key words. And yes some asnwers are completely off the mark. :stupid:
tinkerbelle, how do you coach your DD for science, especially the Section B.
Any tutors, parents please share any pointers. -
Yes, my dd is also weak in Sc Section B.

Hi Funx3,
Read Somewhere that to Secure a Good Score (A*) for Chinese Compo, Rough gauge is to put in 8 ęčÆ in, Then Got Very Good Chance! :lol:Funx3:

BTW, are our kids supposed to know ęčÆ for PSLE? I saw a book on ęčÆ for PSLE in Popular and wonder if it was an outdated publication as I couldn't find the date of publication on it.
:!: 8 ęčÆ to score A* in CL compo??? :faint: Don't think DD can come up with that many ęčÆ in 1 compo. Think I better start exposing DD to more ęčÆ and hope she uses the right ones in the right context for PSLE. :xedfingers:
Errrrrr ....
Must Use the ęčÆ in the Right Context, and No Spelling Error?!

T want them to answer in their RIGID set of Words, else Get Zero even if got similar meaning ....
Guess Maths, if Got the Method Correct, then Can Get it Over and Done With Early in the Year ....Funx3:
....have 1 teacher for 3 subjects and they all love to focus on maths and not pay enough attention on science....
So I guess it's not uncommon to have this practice. Sometimes I do wonder why science is the least focused on.
Afterall, it's not easy with all the process skills involved these days.
Then Can Focus Later in the year to Expose the Kids to the More Varied Aspects of SC Q? -

My Gal did Her latest compo (CL) in school, in the time frame set by the T, and Just Misses the Ending by 4 character when the T strictly asked everybody to \"Pens Down, No Writing!\"
Hi TinkerbelleTinkerbelle:
Hi Brenda,
37-39 is an excellent mark. :celebrate: I haven't seen these marks for a long time in DD's CL compo...heehee.
Usually my DD also do better with ther compo when it's done at home. Not because I edit her work but because she doesn't stick to the stipulated time frame at home and takes her time to plan her plot and check the e-dictionary. I'm sure in exam conditions when she's rushing for time, it'll be a different. In addition, lots of wrong characters... so will lose 1/2 mark for every wrong character. :slapshead:
Quite true that under the exam condition when rushing of time is not easy to produce a good quality of compo. As such, I think is better not to put high hope in this area. Treat the compo. as bonus if it turn up satisfactory.
And was Told she Got 4 marks Minus off Coz Ending Not Completed ....
She Wrote 3 1/2 pages - Don't have time to read thru what she wrote,
So I Just Told Her to Cut Her Story Short Next Time, So Can Complete it on time (4 Marks is A Lot -le!) ....
Heard they Need at Least 350 characters only for Compo ....
Am I Right? -

Is there a MOE List? Where can we find them?Hi all,
Regarding the ęčÆ listed by MOE, does your kids' school teacher teaches or expects to self-study ?
My Gal's School Never had such list, just what they read from the Text book ....  -
Funx3:
Heard that last time there were 60 idioms but not longer tested in PSLE since they had modified the test format in 2006.

Hello all,
Is your child 's teachers understress already?
Yesterday, ds came back and told me one of the soft spoken teacher has started screaming at them in class .I asked why, he mentioned some din hand up the work. So, in the end, for the smallest thing, the teacher also got very agitated.I think the stress is getting into the teacher.
I wonder does your kid face such?
Regards
