Ya very headache, I also do not want to waste too much time trying and trying. I hope to find the right one the first time. So I am still considering and going to many centres, giving myself till end of year to decide.

        Hi,

Just wanted to share my experience with a small group tutor at Holland-the little ink pot. I decided to try it out after reading a review by averagejoe at this link http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1131&start=90
as my son is taking his PSLE this year. I must say I never heard of this place until then and I was not sure if it will work out- we stayed at Punggol- but I was willing to give it a try as my boy's compo was really borderline, failing at times. It took a great leap of faith because I did not visit the place before the first class and also a lot of travelling but in the end it was worth it. The class was very focused in creative writing with a small group of 6 kids. Every week, the class completes one full composition and one functional writing piece. The materials were very comprehensive, with the teacher covering techniques like sensory writing using 5 senses, descriptive styles, analyzing good compositions, personification and things like that. My son had a chance to write a balanced number of picture and situation based compositions. He actually look forward to class each week,as the teacher will 'showcase' a compo written by a child in the class and make copies of that compo for every child to keep. The marking is very detailed and thoughtful, with the purpose of enhancing what my son wanted to say. He said that the teacher understood what he wanted to express and helped him find the right words and phrases. For prelims, his compo marks improved so much that his form teacher called me to compliment him.

He ended the program last week and was sad as he had made friends there. He also liked the teacher who threw a mini-party to wish all the P6 kids good luck. When the English paper ended on Thursday, my boy could not wait to tell me that one of the compositions he had written during tuition came out in the exam. That filled him with a lot of confidence and made me wonder how big an impact the right teacher can make on the attitude towards writing. I'm very glad I found the right help for my dd to overcome his hurdle. Now 2 more papers to go...

Why not put your DS in Creative Horizons? They have one centre at Palais Renaissance and another one at East Coast. I put my two kids through the programmes for a few years already and they’re happy, I’m happy. Their programme covers Compo, Compre, Oral and Grammar - all PSLE stuff.

My son is currectly in British Council. He has been in BC for almost 3 years. He enjoyed the lesson very much. But after 3 years in BC, though he improved on writing skill and comprehension skill, but Vocabulary is still very week. He will be taking his PSLE next year, I am thinking of putting him in Mind Strecher. Any one send your child to mindstretcher for English. Need feedback. Thanks

Nope, you are not advisable to go to Mindstrecher.

They do not teach anything to kids, just gave the paper and let them do themselves. Parents need to teach the kid. Anyway, I find vocabulary is very wide.
