P5 is way too old for this sort of logic.

Agreed with above statement.
It should apply only to toddlers (2 years and below).
In quantitative terms,
if you consider toddlers, 24 months is a big difference of 13 months. A big difference of 11/24=46%.
At P5, the Jan child would be 10x12=120 months old at 1st Jan, while the Dec child is 109 months old.
Developmentally, assuming both children are identical in environmental upbringing, nutrition, and IQ, the Dec child is only 10/120=8% off. -
I do know of Dec babies who outdo their peers born in Jan/Feb/Mar since Day 1 of Primary school. I think it's really NURTURE more than nature since their mums are teachers or highly educated SAHMs.
Then again, I have a cousin who is the same age as me. She's a Dec baby while I'm a April baby. On top of being a Dec baby, she was born premature and had alot of health problems which resulted in a major surgery when she was just 5 months old.
During primary school years, you can see the difference in terms of maturity and grades. By Sec 4, she almost caught up already.
Now as an adult, I don't see her losing out in any way. She is a proud mother of 2, worked hard to get a degree and a good job. Has a doting husband and very nice MIL.
Does it matter how she was lagging behind some peers during primary and secondary school days? I think the challenges and some 'failures' probably made her a stronger person.

Hmm…I think birth month is only one factor, main thing is attitude.
I am year end and my cousin is Jan kid but I am always ahead of her academically. And we were from the same class until streaming started.
Now my child, also year end and she is not losing out becos of this factor too so I think being year end kid is not so major issue.
Only physically we are smaller than our peers.
