        Hi Parents,

Does anyone know which Secondary school take in students through DSA in swimming? What is the chances? Please help!

There are a lot of schools who take in students through swimming DSA. Are you looking for your son or daughter? Your kid's swim coach would be able to advise you on this. Do note that you should be a national medallist to stand a good chance in DSA.

Here's what I know, and again could be outdated. So if I am wrong, please correct me.
Schools that normally take in swimming:
        1. RI/RGS - medalists (1st 4) only
        2. ACS(I) - medalists almost certainly, finalist got chance, top 10 consider water polo
        3. SCGS - medalist/time trial, also takes in synchronized swimming
        4. MGS - medalist for swimmers, finalist considered, synchronized swimming medalists
        5. NJC - might take in very good swimmers if coach recommend, case-by-case, the entrance test is important, academic also important
        6. also heard SJI etc take in swimmers. If you kid cannot qualify for the above, call the school that you like and ask.

There are some here and there that might take, I'm not sure. Note for every school, esp Raffles family, your results is very important. Some swimmers are given conditional offer, i.e. they will only get in after PSLE results are out, normally T-score >250. Again, it depends on how good the swimmer is. If he/she is a national swimmer (e.g. win medals at SEA Games), the T-score required becomes 200.

All these can and normally changes every year, and totally up to the school's discretion. DSA through swimming is not difficult if you are a medalist. In fact, one of the easiest, because it is very difficult to be a medalist. Many, many years of hardwork.

        Hope this helps.

Call them and ask? Also check if they traditionally have good swimmers in their school. Never heard of leh...

Aiyoh! P4 is very young! Things would have changed by then. Enjoy life first lah... :boogie:

                Thanks Everyone!

One more queries - can my boy go through DSA for more than 1 schools so that he has a higher chance of getting to one of the good schools like SJI, Victoria etc?

Does someone know about this? Thanks.

You can apply for DSA at as many schools as you wish BUT be mindful of the time and effort involved. You should apply only for schools that your son is very sure he wants to go to if selected. Do not apply for second choice schools which he might regret getting into when his PSLE scores entitle him to a better school, because once you accept a DSA offer, you cannot participate in the PSLE S1 Central Posting. In other words, you cannot change your mind once you've accepted a DSA confirmed offer. At most, try out for 2-3 schools.

And you will also deprive of another kid of the place who might genuinely want a place in the school. Let's be non-ugly Singaporeans.b

Is it true that you can use ANYTHING to DSA? NGH doesn’t state Art in their DSA criteria but I know of a kid who is going to DSA for NGH using Art.

No you can't. Each school has a list of domains in which it will accept DSA applications for. There are academic domains, such as English, Math, Science, MT. There are sports and aesthetics domains. If art isn't one of the listed domains in NYGH's website, then it is not.
