      friendship:

One forumer shared that English Domain in RGS contains 15 girls. Some girls tend to talk a lot without giving chance to other girls. This shows that facilitators are lousy, do not know how to control the class.

Worst to worst, ask the person who talks so much to SHUT UP (it is usually dominated by one of the races). This is not being rude but survival. Don't need to be well-mannered or raise hands, just interrupt whosoever wants to talk. Otherwise, the chances to be selected are slim, if the 'quieter' girls chose to be quiet and let the 'noisy ones' to win the race.

Are you referring to my earlier post about the English test? It's not that some girls don't give chance to others, just that the talkative ones tend to get carried away. After all, they are only 12yo kids. I also don't think you can blame the teachers. If they are too controlling, it will frighten the girls and they won't be so open in discussion. From what my daughter told me (and she is one of the not-so-talkative ones), the teachers did step in to give shyer ones opportunities to talk. I also think we need to give the teachers some credit for recognising substance and intelligence, whether it's from someone who talks a lot or someone who talks less, as long as the girl doesn't keep total silence thoughout. I wouldn't recommend telling a child to say 'Shut up' to another student - she will probably lose her chance for bad manners!

Two years ago, after my girl finished her interview (Maths, RGS), she also said that the other two Indian girls in her group were very talktive, she only managed to talk few words only, but finally she also got offer from RGS. So parents, please don't worry, I think teachers know how to do.

DD just finished her nygh interview. She said it's a really big group of about 20 girls, and she didn't have much to say. She felt that her chances with nygh has just gone down the drain...:(

Why are the girls school conducting interview in big groups? Is this the norm? Poor gals, if they're not the vocal type, they'll feel helpless & drown. :imdrowning:

DD had her interview at NYGH yesterday. It's only a group of 6 gals to 2 interviewers (the principal and the vp) and they have to do group discussion while the interviewers observed. Only 2 questions were asked (1 in English and 1 in Chinese). They only took about 20 minutes in total.

Basically, there are 2 groups of interviewers yesterday and the gals are group into 6s.

I heard if RI doesn't send email reg. selection test, means not shortlisted and no notification sent for rejected pupils.

That is why I said some ( races) very talkative and do not give any chance to others. I think it is not the girls problem. Interview is suppose to be one to one not twenty in a group.

The facilitator plays an important part in delegating the talk. If meeting a very bias facilitator, really have to teach our kids to survive in such situation.

                        Shalom:
My girl math domian is in the morning 8.15am at RI on 21 Jul. I called RGS to change the timing to afternoon but they said the timing is fixed and do not allow any changes.

                        Same here!!

Your daughter's test dates clashed with NUSHS is it? Is there anything else we can do? Will have to give up one?

Can u share how u make the decision?
