The DSA season is ending.

From how I see it, DSA process works well for mainly GEP students and those from mainstream, it will only be the ones who excel in music, sports and perhaps specific talent in academic subject. Take a look, most of the successful stories we read here are the GEPPERS and those with sports talent. Even number of places allocated for DSA per school is on the average of 180 to 200 for GEP students and a measly number of 20 or so for mainstreamers under academics and the rest for sports. No wonder we don't many successful stories for mainstreamers.

Mainstreamers who are consistently good in academics with stellar results throughout the years do not stand much chance in being successful in DSA
application unless they have something very specific talent which the IP schools want to tap on. I have seen very bright and promising top students
in various schools denied acceptance through DSA to their dream schools.
Most of them ended up getting into the schools they want through PSLE
posting. That somehow explains why the top schools here pass them up
through DSA as they too knew these bright mainstreamers can easily gain
      entry through PSLE results.

So parents whose DC are denied acceptance through DSA, especially when they are truly bright and promising students, do not despair as the DSA selection procedures are based on a different criteria and how they decide on which student to choose, only the school and God knows. It is by no means that your DCs are not up to par. Look at the big picture. That's the PSLE.
Does this mean the mainsteamers (with no special telants in sports, music e.g.) have very slim changes in DSA?
not true. all rounder in academics still have good chance
From what I see, I don't fully agree. If applying for the top schools thru DSA, mainstreamers need something to stand out. In fact some schools have different selection for GEPPERs and Mainstreamers.

Unless applying for schools a notch or more lower in standard, then mainstreamers may stand a better chance. Moreover, I don't think many GEPPERs would apply to these schools via DSA. Correct me if I am wrong.

Congrats to those who got COs/WLs.....and to those who have been unsuccessful, don't be dismayed. The DSA exercise is just another path / opportunity in addition to PSLE. Work hard for the prelim and PSLE and prove yourself worthy. There is another opportunity to get into your dream school just by PSLE score.

For those who got CO, work doubly hard to prove yourself worthy of the CO.

In any case after getting into sec 1, everyone does not bother whether you got in with PSLE score or via DSA anymore

        In the meanwhile, work hard.

No really. Diff school has diff acceptance criteria. For example NUSH and ACSI , GEP or not have equal chance, they both have to participate in the entry test and be selected from there.

I just called up SST, the staff says the result have not been mailed out. They will do so either by end of this week or early next week.... And will send all result, successful or not, at the same time. 😓

:congrats: to all who has CO or WL once again!!

Sorry I mentioned that HCI CO will be emailed.

That’s not the case. It’s just that one of my friends received email that he got WL from HCI. HCI just sent email to him that there was a mistake and he actually got CO

It had taken us a long time to decide whether to DSA under academic or under sports. DD is in fact all-rounder, she clinched some prizes for maths Olympiad, is a school prefect and one of top students in her school.

Yet, after reading many advises from here, we felt she would not stand out in academic DSA, which requires EXTRAORDINARY achievement in certain area. Luckily, we have sports to DSA. Some of her classmates chose not to participate in DSA, they are confident to get into their dream school by PSLE. So really work hard for PSLE! :celebrate:

know of GEPpers who only applied RI but got rejected and now left with PSLE only to try. Will they be given priority to go to any preferred school due to they are from GEP then? the answer is no.

For NUSH, it is stated that those who wish to join them (not thru DSA) but after release of PSLE results, those students who receive A* for Math and Science are highly encouraged to apply.

I am sure many who applied must have maths olympiad credentials and I would be surprised if they don't look at them.

Really meh? No lah. I think what happened is they let teachers-in-charge of each CCA to call, share the work-load. 😂
