Would appreciate if anyone of you can give me some advice.

If your DD is able to get into any of the top girl schools via DSA, will you take up the chance or just go through the normal route via PSLE results. If you take up via DSA, which school will you choose?

      Thank You very much.

Obviously take up the chance of DSA. As for which school, each student and her parents will have their own preference.

Does getting a platinum in SMOPS gaurantee a CO in HCI? Let’s say if a child gets platinum in SMOPS but overall school result only average, let’s say 75-79% for GEP student. What is the chance of getting a CO?

Of course will accept if the school is my DD's 1st choice school. If it's not, then will be a bit difficult to decide.

GEP + smops platinum = HCI DSA CO is quite certain

Also depends on what DSA route that is. If it's through sports/CCA or a specific academic discipline, the child needs to be sure she is willing to pursue that for the next 6 yrs. If there are any doubts, I would advise against it. Entering through PSLE means that the student try for a different sport/CCA if she wants, and can decide not to take part in certain competitions/training etc.
any academic discipline for DSA will be no difference once admitted into the school, esp for RGS / NYGH / RI / HCI

even for those sports DSA students, if their PSLE t-score is reasonably high, they will still be blended into the standard class

Personally, this point is like a guiding principle for me. I am targetting to position my P5 and P4 for DSA using band.

They are not top of cohort kids. Probably 30 percentile in the school. So I need to be mindful to choose a secondary school that is around their standard which they won't drown if they get in and at the same time allow them to pursue their passion in band. To me, it's the sustainability that matters.

But students who DSA in via a specific academic discipline are expected to continue with the special training/competitions and related CCA through their school years, I have heard. I don't think they have the option to drop that sport/CCA etc. Eg. if someone DSAs in through Maths, say, can they opt not to go for the Math-related training and competitions?
for sports DSA it is hard to drop, unless it is due to injury and has to be out on long term basis

for acad DSA -- taking part in competition is already a given as long as you are good even if the entry was not via DSA

eg know of someone who always win in certain international competition but did not enter the school using that domain - still being asked to take part in those competition even when not in that CCA

In any case, why wouldn't you if that was your forte?
