My ds' classmate last year had platinum in SMOPS in p6 plus various other Math Olympiad awards since he was in p4 & p5 as well.

HCI rejected him - no wait list either. But he got a RI CO. Not GEP boy - mainstream class. For actual PSLE, he got just over 250.

may be he answered the interview question of \"which school will you choose?\" with the answer \"RI\" ...... so, honest answer and got wish fulfilled .... :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Well, to be given CO by RI is quite a feat too. Only 2 mainstream boys in the school were given CO by RI. Many more by HCI (CO/WL). This boy is rather \"queer\". Wouldn't know how he handled the interviews. Actually he wanted NUSH, not RI, but rejected by NUSH too.
Platinum and rejected by NUSH and HCI. I've heard of a previous case too, but rather unusual I must say.

But students who DSA in via a specific academic discipline are expected to continue with the special training/competitions and related CCA through their school years, I have heard. I don't think they have the option to drop that sport/CCA etc. Eg. if someone DSAs in through Maths, say, can they opt not to go for the Math-related training and competitions?

If you DSA through Math you would be expected to go for the Math-related training and competitions. In any case, why wouldn't you if that was your forte?

DD DSAed into RGS through Maths domain...
And yes, she is required to join Math Soc.
She is also required to participate in Math competitions.
DD does not see the requirements as a chore.
Instead, we thought she was very blessed indeed to be guaranteed a place in Math Soc, one of the CCAs she was interested in.

For RGS and NYGH, what does one need for DSA through maths domain? Need RIPMWC Distinction or SMOPS Platinum? Is there any selection test by the school? Thx.

Hi slmkhoo,

It’s good that you pointed out the above cos throughout the DSA, it was never mentioned that the successful applicants (through academics domain) have to fulfil certain obligations towards the school.

The CCA obligation was a pleasant surprise for my family, but I did witness the shock and unhappiness of some parents during the CCA briefing (meant only for DSA successful applicants).

Therefore, unless one is willing to commit oneself to a CCA for 4 years, don’t try for DSA. This applies to RGS, not sure about the other schools.

For RGS, if your DD clears GAT, she will have to sit for the Math Selection Test.

It would be great if your DD has significant achievements in MO, but not absolutely necessary.
What's more important is how she performs in the RGS Math Selection Test.

No idea how NYGH carries out the DSA.
DD only tried out for RGS.
We are planning DSA via asthetics route.

Is there a website that shows a summary of the asthetics CCA that is wanted for DSA by each school?

Don't think so. Best thing to do is to go to the websites of the schools you're interested in and check there. Straight from the horse's mouth. You can also check some of the threads here and see if anyone's posted relevant info. Which aesthetics domain is your child interested in? There are some forummers here who might be able to advise you.

We are looking at band. Appreciate the advice of forumners whose kids used this route as well.
SJI offers DSA via Band

You can check out those schools who were zonal champs or national's QFinalist/Sfinalist...
