If the child is certain that his interest would be sustained for all four years and is happy to train intensively and represent the school, certainly go for Sports DSA. But if the kid is just good at the sport or is forced into it by the parents and has no passion for it, and think he might be interested in another sport in secondary school then the DSA sport can get tedious in the long run.

Right now, my dd still intends to continue with the sport, but I prefer that she keeps her options open. I don't want her to eat, live and breathe that sport which she'd have to do to remain competitive in the years to come. Not only that, her physique will also be affected if she has to train even harder. Bulky like Joscelin Yeo!

I prefer that she has time for other activities eg. music or art to be well-rounded. It's my secret wish that she will join the String Ensemble.

Not every one in competitive swimming will be like Joscelin Yeo! See Quah Ting Wen, she is slim and elegant. But if dd does not want to go on training, it is certainly fair not to go DSA sport, Otherwise, it is no harm to try, especially for her dream school.
